Whites 5000D GEB Series 1 questions:whites:

 I just bought an old Whites 5000D GEB TR Disc Series 1 metal detector from someone. He has a single 9 volt battery hooked up to it. My question is...How many volts does this unit require? I think it is 12 volts but the battery pack is missing and I am not sure. I do know that some of these run off of a battery pack plus a nine volt but I think this is just the 12 volt system. Can anyone verify this for me? Could I go to Radio Shack and get a 8 AA battery holder and would this work? Also inside the battery door there is a date stamped "OP" What does this mean? Sorry about all the questions but I am new to this model so any input would be appreciated. Thanks, RDF :detecting::whites:

Phone Whites they are very hepful. Wrong batteries could fry the detector,

It is a 12 volt system and 9 volts would not hurt it, it just would not work very well or for very long. Here are pictures of my 5000/GEB that I just sold with the right batteries and charger. Yes, RS should have a pack that would work.

Sorry, I can't help with the OP.

 Thanks guys for the info. Yep, Larry my unit looks just like the one you sold. I downloaded a manual from the Whites website and it confirmed the 12 volt system. So I went to Radio Shack and got a 8 AA battery holder, hooked it up and it works great!:clapping: And Joel is right , ... man ...I could have fried the electronics with too much voltage! :surprised: Happy Hunting and best wishes to both of you, RDF :detecting::whites:
