All I did to this one was crop and resize, no color changes. The flower is about 6" and looks like its floresent. Pictures I'm posting are about 80K, that work OK for you all? I agree with previous post, HELP ME LEARN. Dave

that sucker is sure colorful. What the heck is it? Pretty flower

Most commenly called Christmas Cactis, many varieties. Wish this thing had a spell checker. Here is a few more but the picstures are not good. Dave

Don't worry about the size, the bigger the better as far as I'm concerned. But the cropping to a white background really washes out the color. Layer this onto a more subdued background using just a hint of drop shadow and I think you'll see the color of this beauty come alive.

to to this site and download it. I use it all the time and it works great. I think it only works on Explorer though

Thanks. I just installed it. I wonder why IE doesn't come with it. Thanks again Dave

The white is the sky, it was very bright & overcast, took the pic facing up. I'll see if I can add a background layer.
Thanks Dave

You did very good on your exposure then. That would be an extremely difficult shot due to the backlighting. How many shots did you take to get the exposure correct? In any case, later tonight I'll play around with your picture in PhotoShop to try and accent the colors in the flower.

Here is the file I saved before downsizing for web. I must have deleted the original. I have to take lots of pics to get one thats almost good. Exif says 1/160@f3.5, spot exposure. Don't know about exposure compensation.
Dave

After some playing around I'm not sure I've improved much on the original. In any case, it was fun trying to see what I could do.

Looks much more real or finished. I can't find anything in the PS Elements book about drop shadows.

Obviously I had to use layers. I created a white background layer to build on. Next I made a layer from some grass in a baseball photo I had. I applied the gaussian blur to the grass to soften it up so the flower would stand out more. Then I cropped out the flower and placed it over the blurred grass. I also added a very light drop shadow effect to the flower as well as a little tweaking in the levels to brighten it up. Next on the blurred grass layer I erased a circle around the edge of the flower using about 25% opacity and 0% hardness to get the colors faded smoothly into the flower. Lastly I just cropped the whole workspace down and resized for the web. It all sounds harder than it really is. I probably finished the flower graphic in less time than it's taking me to type this post. Glad you liked it though Royal.

You say you cropped the flower. This is where I need help. I understand cropping but what I don't understand is how you can cut around the flower so perfectly. Is there a tool in Photoshop that can recognize what needs to be cropped or do you have to use the lasso tool?
I'm sure this is pretty basic but I can't say that I know much about photo-editing. Thanks.
