White MXT vs X-Terra 70

Good evening from Arizona,
Many years past (1973) I used a Whites MD ( I think it was a CoinMaster, but not certain) and in '69 I used one in Viet Nam looking for mines). Now my wife has gotten "gold fever" of sorts and I am back in the market for another detector.I have being reading, checking, talking and generally making a pain of myself with people I know who are using detectors and have narrowed the search to 2 possible primary machines; the White MXT and the X-Terra 70. Both seem good but I am leaning towards the White. My actual question is for a back-up machine that my wife can use for general use as well as for looking for nuggets. I have considered the Gold Bug2 but it may be to specific a machine and also a few others. A may find myself getting 2 MXT,s as they seem to be very good all around machine as well as good gold hunters. Concerning coils other then the 9.5 that comes with it, chat on here and other locations, tent to rate the 6x10 DD as a reasonably good all-around coil.
Also, I was looking at some of the rigs people use to get to the hunting locations and I thought all might be interested in our transportation. Not fancy, but carries 14, tons of gold and rocks and climbs like a home-sick-angel. Clearance is over a foot. Any input reference the machines mentioned, would be greatly appreciated.....and yes I am certain there has already been a ton mentioned about this match-up but anything any would like to say I appreciate, specifically about coils or a second machine. Thanks in advance

The title of your thread is almost identical to the title of my thread, LOL.

I am leaning towards the MXT for now. From everything I read, it is easier to use. The Xterra 70 has quite a complicated menu driven system. I will be using the detector in a variety of areas, from tot lots to abandoned mines at 13,000 feet up in the Rockies.

I will keep you all posted on how well it performs.

Go with the MXT, you put a 6 X 10 DD coil on it and you will basically have the famous Gold getting GMT. And a good all around detector also, I've hunted gold in the Prescott Valley area with my MT and did real good.

Love your ride mate, now thats a prospecting vehicle.
I recently ditched my Terra 70 for the MXT. Almost everywhere I have taken it back to I have found gold with it. Yesterday I used it in a place where I had hunted out with the 70 and found a nice 1 gram bit in ironstone using the 10" elliptical coil. Last week I got a specie full of fine gold using the 5.3 eclipse concentric. A piece of that is now in the shop I work in to prove to customers what the MXT is capable of getting. My choice of coils over here in Aus:ausflag: is for sure the 10" and 5.3. Very nice machine which you can control much more so than a 70 and as the ground gets worse you really come to appreciate it.

Hey,
I too am tending toward the MXT. When I finally get something I will let you know and then see how it works in this Arizona country.

Good evening down-under,

I have a tendency to things Aussie ... I wear Akubras instead of stetsons (to include a slouch from the AATTV), and worked with the AATTV in Viet Nam in the late 60's (great respect for some great troops), but this time I may have to go with a US product. There seems to be a bit of wide-spread ground swell towards the MXT. But, we shall see. As for the ride, it is Austrian made for the Swiss military. pure stock, no upgrades or "improvements" except for a GPS and a step-down to run the toys (step down to 12 volt from 24 military). Drives my wife nuts. NO POWER and she is a Vietnamese, so slight of frame. When it rains, you get wet !!! When you are driving and the engine (4, air cooled) and trans are talking, you will NOT get a word in, so we have a set of aviation intercom and headsets (I happen also to be a pilot) that we can use. And yes, I have been to Australia way back in the '60s. Again , thanks for the input, it has helped. Talk again. Have a G' day when it arrives and damn, you have some cool but venomous snakes down there. Catch ya.

Yeah , my Staffy would testify to how venomous they are, he got nailed by a King Brown several months back in our backyard and was just saved in time, we only live 5 minsfrom the vets practice.

Gee...All I want is an ATV, then I saw your ride. Let's see, detectors, water, food, tent, tables, chairs, stove, sleeping bags. Yup it all fits!!!! Wierd, three days ago I saw a rig just like yours in town and I told my wife that I needed that to MD with. She asked if I was crazy. Figured she would have known the answer after 40 years!!!!!

Hey there,
Sorry for the late reply. I lived in Enid long time past, and now live in ..... Prescott Valley, AZ!!! Yep. Same place you found gold. I live in a development that Lynx Creek runs through. The place is StoneRidge, and was built on and around a lot of placer gold areas. I ended up getting the MXT, and now in the market for a 6x10 DD or the smaller 4x6; but think I will go with the 6x10. Gives a little more coverage, while still being a reported good gold-getter, but better for gold then the 12" that came with it. Still learning how to use it. More complicated and efficient then my past CoinMaster. Anyway, time to hit the sack. Thanks for your input.

You know there is a good chance you could find nuggets in your own back yard. Lynx Creek reported the most productive gold-bearing stream in Arizona, and all its tributaries, east of Prescott. I will send you a PM tonight when I get off work to let you know all the creeks in your area that are good producers of large nuggets. Man I would love to live in that area. I prospect out there at least twice a year:thumbup: My wife has trouble with the 110 temperatures in the summer. Good luck.

Bob, can you point me to a resource to identify potential gold-bearing streams in New Mexico, if there are any?
