White MX Sport coil adapter...

OK, so I happen to notice that the plug used on an old set of CTX 3030 headphones happens to connect perfectly to the coil plug on the MX Sport. The connector on the headphones is a M12 A coding 8 pin straight male connector. I found a female connector with a pigtail end through Mouser, which I can cut down ( it comes in a 1m length) to connect to a Switchcraft SL415FX connector to match to my mxt coils. Between now and the connectors coming in, I just need to determine the pins for the TX, RX and ground for both the coil and the MX Sport. Wondering if I call Whites next week if they would, offer that info to me. They have been very gracious in the past on parts, but just not sure about the pin outs on a new machine. Can't hurt to ask. I just can't seeing not being able to use all of my existing coils on this machine when they technically are compatible. And I don't always need it to be 100 percent waterproof.

What do you think? If anyone has any info that on the pinout already, would be appreciated. I know I had it once before for the eclipse coils, just can't remember were I saved it.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated once the parts come in.

Hey Shawn. It should be easy to measure the pinouts to get the ohms for TX and RX. I have done it on Fisher coils in the past. More than likely they are using a total of 5 pins. Ground and then the 2/2 TX/RX. You can measure your existing coils and get the ohms and then match up the Sports. Let me know what you come up with :)

Great info Shawn,

Thanks for sharing,
Paul

Thanks Megadiver.

Thanks Paul.

OK, First, the adapters can in. The M12 8pin female connector works, but will eventually find a better one. The one I selected feels a bit cheap to me, but it should work for now. The other connector... I goofed and ordered the wrong one. It should have been an SL415MX. So I reordered and it should be here later today I am hoping.

As far as the pinouts this is what I found... I check a couple of my eclipes coils and after a looking up some other info on coils out there, I concluded that the higher reading ohms was the TX and the other is the RX. When the connector comes in, I'll put it together and test it out.

Good Morning All,

Well, the new SL415mx connector did not come in until this morning, when it did not come in last night I thought for sure I would have to wait until Monday.

But last night I could wait and started to screw around a bit with the pigtail. I connected it up to the MX sport and stripped the pigtail end off and bared the wires I needed. I then just pushed them into the correct pins on my 4x6 eclipse coil. It worked. Nickles read 18, zincs read 57 and 60, copper pennys read 70-71 and the one that thru me was a quarter read at 78-79. I just need to pull my soldering iron out and I will get it finished today, after a few honey do's.

I had come across a post that Steve H. had showing the inside and the pigtail setup of the coil connector to the main board, and I began to wonder if it was going to work either. I think what Whites did was just buy a premade pigtail for the board connector, like I did to make a coil adapter. Thats is why we are seeing what looks like all 8 wires in use. BTW, Thanks Steve for those photos.

Later On and Thanks to all viewing,

Shawn(TX)

Still Diggin, where did you order the SL415mx connector? I can't wait to try my 4x6 shooter coil on the MX Sport. Should be a coin killer in heaver trash.

Is the SL415mx connector the 5 pin connector? I already have both male and female 5 pin from an old whites detector. Where can I find the 8 pin connectors?

I think you will find that the higher reading ohms is the receive and the lower is the transmit.

Thank you, Steve.

And Thank you, Mel.

Yes, Sir, That is what I pretty much figured out.

It's working great, I posted a pic of some cherry picking one of my son's and I did the other day trying it out.

Also It was suggested to make sure to state that the adapter is NOT WATERPROOF. And if you choose to make one of these adapters to use on your machine, you do it at your own risk.

Thanks Again All,

Shawn(TX)

I wonder if possible or where can I get a water proof headphone plug to use on my at pro waterproof headphones......just swap plugs from at pro to mx sport!
