White Gold

I have a friend who lost a white gold cross and has an approx. area of their yard it is thought to be in. My question, I have yellow gold to test and hear the sounds for , will the white gold sound similar or the same? Thanks for any advice. I am using an explorer XS.

The Kt. and the Alloy will produce many diferent tones.
also the amount of mass will change how it sounds.
If he knows the general area and it wasn't lost ages ago you might be able to open up ironmask to around -12 run a low sens say 5 and go into the gain setting and lower down to around 3 by doing this you only need to dig the louder targets.
Good luck.

If it is the same alloy you can use the learn function. I have found dulicates to lost jewelry that way a couple of times. Just reject all metals then use the lean function for white gold. If that does not work then set the EX2 to detect only alloys. Then go to all meals if that does not work.
I have located several pieces of jewelry using this method over the years. So far just a thank you. Ha ha

White gold usually comes in real low so should be a lower tone than the yellow gold.Of course a lot depends how large it is and above all what alloy its mixed with...I would bet it would come in around the low foil area..My wife has a nice size white gold engagement ring and on a 1-100 meter comes in a 7-8..yellow gold ring this size would be just below nickel 16-17-18....or so doubt if the yellow gold will help you ID...

Thanks for all the information. I do appreciate it. This piece of jewelry, a mediem size necklace cross was lost in July of this year so it should be just in the grass if a lawn mower has not tossed it. I plan to look a reasonable distance away from where they feel they lost it also.
