Ive got a 3 gram white ring that says 14k but it rings like merc. dime. Whats your experience with white gold sound? Do I have a phoney? I know the sound of yellow gold and wouldnt think white sounds different. Thanks for all replies. formerly diggingfix
P.S> it is solid not plated, whatever it is.

White gold is made by adding other alloy like nickel, palladum, platinum, or zinc. It started in the 1920's i think. Those metals were used in lieu of silver just because they were stronger and cheaper. Could be mixed with say coin silver thou....which also includes nickel. Size also would have something to do with where it hits.

My experience with white gold is that it usually reads a tad lower than yellow. I primarily use an E-Trac and any kind of reading like12-46 would be silver in my books .Still would be neat to have a 14k .925 ring .I've also heard of gold plated sterling silver .
