While detecting at a local beach it happen again.I recovered a white 14k gold band for a thank you (idk) this kind of gets old.I.D.K. stands for? I did kindness.

Congrats on the return..
Have we/you not found plenty that was lost by someone that didn't have the luck of you just happening to be there at that exact time with your MD...kinda like it was meant to happen that way, or just dumb luck!
We are rewarded plenty by all the gold and silver we find and can't return,so is it so hard to give back once in a while? Is it so much of a let down to find and return a ring that was just lost for nothing more than a smile, thanks, hug, high-five, or handshake?? I don't think so or we wouldn't do it,... and whether you get a cash reward or just a handshake, I bet you will continue to help out in those situations.... because you can!!, .... It has not gotten old for me yet. Good Luck!!

Congrats on finding the lost treasure for someone unable to help themselves, a "Kindness" indeed!!!

I hope you told him that if you ever find it again that it will belong to you!!

Returning a found item never gets old for me and it should not for you!
I am sure any item that has been lost has more meaning to the owner (at least at one time) than a monitary value to the finder.
If the dollars a found object would change your life-style; well I would have to think twice, but still would return it to the rightful owner,
I believe one is rewarded for the good deeds he does in his life. Don't be a Scrooge.

The very first ring I returned has yet to be answered by a simple Thank You, which is all I have ever ask for. Something I can go back and re-read when I get so physically incapacitated that I can no longer metal detect. Having such personal notes is the biggest reward I have.

Don't believe it check out the artical and video:

i usally get offered 20-30$ and i just tell them not to bring it to the beach couse next time its mine

and as much as i dont mined returning a few rings every summer ...when i think of "reward" i thing of sitting on the couch wile the ups guys brings me a pot of gold!!

reward does not involve me spending 1300$ for md and spending 6 hours digging holes:lol:

and after all that i have to get ready for the beach now to get away from the kids...thats my reward!! hahaha

Howie, please know that you have scored a huge amount of cosmic favor and your are blessed for doing kind deed for a cheep so and so who will soon have a rash of parking lot dings in his car and maybe some other rashes as well.
It is better to be a good man that to meet one. You are a good man.

Great deed on your part but something seems amiss about that picture. It looks like the ring just barely made it over the joint of his finger and I don't see any evidence of a tan line on his finger.Poor fit at the very least.

Glad you returned the ring and hope he was the rightful owner after reading Grunter's post. A couple I've been acquainted with about the last 40 years informed me the wife had lost a ring on her sister's property and I hope after Thanksgiving I can go and recover it for them. I recovered one this year under a man's dock and hope I can find this one for them.

This subject (returns) always makes for some good banter...both sides and those in the middle have valid arguments...everything we find is an item 'lost' by somebody.....that 14k white gold was a nice find, and howie obviously takes this sport seriously and has invested in top of the line gear, I doubt any of us would do this sport for long if everything we found we returned with nothing but a 'thankyou'...Its nice to have somebody appreciate your gear, experience, effort and dedication to at least offer a reward every so often...Pasttom said it, karma goes both ways...Just part of the adventure I guess, we have all read some really cool returns, and some not so cool....all a guy can do is try to live every day with themselves with a clear conscience, whatever your personal conscience dictates in these regards...

My first reaction to the photo was exactly the same as Grunter.....the fit is not good, and I would have expected it to go higher on his finger, and that he would have a mark on his finger where the ring fit..ie, the flesh of his finger would have been dimpled from the ring having been worn previously....I can only assume that he identified himself and the ring before he saw it and claimed it. Nice work on finding it howie, and very good attitude in handing it over to a claimant.

Well, I've gotten from a bear hug, to some shots & beers, to a $100 Reward. Originally offered $200, but found it so fast only took a hundred. Plus a nice hug. So the type that don't at least offer something ,well they wouldn't want me to be their waiter. Every case has to be looked at by itself.

Sometimes the stories you come away with in this sport are worth more than the item found.
