While we beat you in the clad value, your silver is so beautiful

Man, one day I want to dig up a Mercury dime. That's my wish. Clearly a beautiful coin, I am already planning on making it into a ring for myself. In Canada though, that is pretty hard to do, and although some of us have done it, I am still trying...

Here in Canada our clad has higher denominations and we can rack up huge clad values when hunting, but you Americans have us totally beat in the old sliver coin design department. Your coins are truly hawt! That walking Liberty should be framed!

That's all I have to say. Thank you for listening.

The first silver I ever dug was 30 years ago. It was a Mercury dime. I guess that's why I think they are so cool even to this day. If your making a ring out of a Merc you better have a small finger..

Beachdude,

When you do find your first Mercury dime I hope its in better condition than the one I found yesterday. Its too bad its so heavily corroded because it has very little wear.

Try the tin foil, baking soda, hot water trick on that Merc! Some of that - bet a bunch - might roll off. Look it up online - good luck! Nice find by the way...

I agree you because you all over the border get huge amounts of Clad and especially because of Loonies and Toonies ($1 and $2)

Actually, when I detected in Canada the ET had to be introduced to the Loonies and Toonies because it rejected it as Trash because of the Metal that is used for productionof the Coins

But I agree with you about some of our old Silver, in my opinion the Mercury, Standing Liberty and Walking Liberty Half are some of the most beautiful Coins I have seen

It is even better when you actually find them, I have not yet found my Walking Liberty Half

I have found a Canadian 1890 Queen Victoria ten cent and a 1906 Edward V11 ten cents and they are pretty coins and were a thrill to find

I also want to note that our Silver Roosevelt and Silver Mercury have the same value but not to me I Always prefer finding the Merc!

(Of course finding Barber's and Seated is very also Exciting)

Good Luck and HH

I agree that we have beautiful coins and I love the Merc !! I only have one walking liberty half but will never get rid of it !! Hope you find your Mercury dime soon !! HH

Once the U.S. got away from the stylized busts on coins and went to dead presidents the coins lost a lot of their former beauty and artist design. I agree with banditicey that the Mercury dime, Standing Liberty quarter and Walking Liberty half are some of the most attractive U.S. coins. But so are Barber coins, Indian Head cents, V nickels and Buffalo nickels. Maybe we like them better because they are more difficult to find?

I Luv the Indian Heads, V Nickels and Buffalo Nickels

But Silver was the coin that was mentioned in this post and specifically the Mercury Dime

I could also say that the Large Cents and Bust Dimes, etc are also lovely and beautiful

I am always thrilled to find a Barber and a Seated but stylistically the Merc, SLQ and WLH are just really Beautiful

There was no intention to "Dis" the others

It was when the Presidents started becoming our Coins that Beauty was no longer a Factor in production of Coins

Finding a Old Silver is worth more to me than a 100 Clad

Regards and HH

Digging silver is always a great moment!
And the mercury is my favorite US coin. But
since I live in Sweden I guess it will be tough to find
one here:)
