While All Of You Were Drooling Over The AT PRO, I Went And Found Another 3 Rings With It's Cousin "SCORP"

Worked half a busy soccer field tonite after work. Lots of signals, little junk. I could smell rings, so I refused to go home until I got at least one. Well, I managed three.

THE RING MASTER STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :surrender::thumbup:

Way to go John! I see your posts and miss my Scorpion a lot...I used to call her 'Chatty Cathy'! LOL! Mostly because of all the chirping and burbling that I'd just ignore until she said something that really caught my attention! I haven't had my Scorpion now for the last couple years, and now I have the AT Pro on order! Yep. I'm drooling and waiting to take the AT to the places that I 'fished out' already and see what else lurks below! :garrett::detecting::super:

John,

Just a quick question - when you're hunting places like a soccer field for example, what settings are you using on your Scorpion? Thanks for reading.

Ralph

I found out a few years back that the Scorpion Really Banged hard on rings. When searching in places, especially parks and sports fields, I have noticed that Scorp bangs hard on all round circular objects like round pulltabs, beaver tail pull tabs and of course rings. Now my other vlf machines will pick up a gold ring, but generally with a softer tone. Not the Scorp. It bangs loud and clear on gold rings, possibly because of it's higher 15 kHz operating frequency. I usually operate the Scorp in auto mode, unless I want more depth. For greater depth, I do ground balance it and notice a nice depth improvement too. In busy junky fields, I just set the disc at the default position, 6.5. To hunt in clean areas with little junk, I just hunt in true all metal mode, and when I get a signal, I switch it to disc mode. If the targets disappears, I ignore it. If however the target continues to give a strong signal, I make an educated guess to dig or not to dig based on the sound and sound cut off from the toe of the coil.. I find pinpointing in true all metal mode off the toe of the coil gives me greater accuracy, and I can judge the approximate depth and conductivity by the strength & sound of the analog audio plus how fast the audio cuts out when the coil has just passed the target. The faster the cutoff, the shallower the target and the better conductivity. Rings cut off real fast and Nice a strong sound even at deeper depths.

You have to really learn the tones on this machine, and for good depth in normal conditions, set the depth knob as high as you want without it being unstable in auto, all metal mode, then turn the audio clockwise until it starts to get unstable, then finally back off turning it counter clockwise 2 complete revolutions. This is now set to give you nice hard audio hits on rings and coins.

Good Luck

John,
Sorry to have caused you to post your reply again. My fault . . . if I had been paying attention, I would have noticed that someone else asked basically the same question I did about your settings. Anyway, thanks for posting your reply again. I certainly wish I could emulate you and your skill (luck?) here in Virginia !!!

Put in the time....you really don't get to know a machine until you have at least 100+ hours on it. Too many people buy too many different machines, never really learn them properly and make a lot of inconclusive claims about their abilities.
