whiffletree tip

Can you tell us what a whiffle tree is? I've found those before and were unsure what they went to. Thanks, David
 
The pivoted horizontal crossbar to which the harness traces of a draft animal are attached and which is in turn attached to a vehicle or an implement. Also called singletree, swingletree, also called regionally whippletree.
 
I aint never seen those on a single tree or a double tree. I can see where they may sit on top of a set of hames, but I have never seen 'em on the end of a single tree. Could be we wernt doing things right also...d2
