Which widescan coil has better depth on Tejon?

As for depth and overall relic hunting, which coil would perform better on the Tejon, the 10" elliptical widescan or the 8 1/2" round widescan? The ground they will be used in is highly mineralized.

Thanks for your help
Greg

I have the 10 inch and the 5.75 the 5.75 seems deeper to me,dont know why.Today I found a buffalo nickle a silver roosevelt a mercury dime an indian head penny,2 war nickles and about 5 wheatheads plus a religous medalion all with the 5,75. I love that coil!

You have the added depth advantage of the bigger (10") coil, yet with an eliptical shaped coil it minimizes amount of "dirt" under the coil. A 10" round coil would cover more dirt than an eliptical coil would, and in trashy and mineralized soil, the less ground under the coil the better.

I tried the 8.5 round ws and saw no improvement over my 5.75 ws on coin sized objects.

Does the 8.5 cover from tip to tip, giving a full 8.5" of coverage? Some widescans dont.

Thanks,
Neil

The 10"X12" DD Widescan, not unless you can find a 11" round might beat it,but Tesoro does not offer it anymore!..............If you can find a 11" let me know!........

....Are you the Greg that's going to DIV?? This is Don from PA! If so, I thought that was you. Good question for sure - I'm hoping I can pick up a widescan before the event in October. I'm thinking of going with a smaller sized widescan due to the weight. With those long days at DIV, any big coil may get to be a lot to cart around. I know with my MXT, if I put on the stock 9.5 coil, my arms and hands are killing me after a few hours of swinging that heavy stuff around. To go the distance, I'm thinking of sticking to a smaller coil size just to save wear and tear on my hands and arms.

Don in PA.
