.................discontinued is the best for detecting gold rings???? Some tell me the all time champ was the IDX pro??? That caught me by surprise .....................was the IDX that good a jewelry unit? Or which was better?? Thanks.
 
You get a better hit on gold with a little higher frequency. So therefore the newer 14.7 kHz is hotter on gold. DFX, MXT, BHID, M6
 
Cutting right to the chase...I'd have to say the MXT. If your going for past stuff (to save money)...5900 Di Pro or Eagle II. Learn the machine. These last two are a little heavier (not bad) and are very versatile.
 
On land, dry sand or on a salt beach ?

Land/Dry sand I would say MXT. Salt beaches either DFX or BHID. The DFX can be tuned for specific conditions better than the BHID due to it's programming ability but it's obviously not water proof.
