Which White's for my Buddy?

Idaho PRB

I realize I may get as many answers as posts to this one, so I will try to narrow down the criteria. My neighbor is a real nice guy but definetely not technically minded at all. He is a strong believer in White's Detectors and I have no experience with them so I am asking for your help. He currently has a Bounty Hunter of some kind without a digital readout and is really interested in a White's with a target identification display. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Idaho PRB

1) We mainly hunt yards and schools in our neighborhood together for coins.
2) He doesn't have much money so would be looking for a used machine I think.
3) He would get confused easily if the machine needed constant tuning for slightly different conditions. More bells and whistles might be a bad thing for this guy.
4) He would like a target ID display.
5) Our ground is pretty mineralised so a DD coil would be needed.

depending on his money, i know of the deal of the century. a brand new mxt pro for $700.00. in the box brand new. never used. a guy won it in his club drawing and used it in a trade deal. the dealer gave him $700 for it as part of a deal on a new e-trac.free shipping. the dealer is selling for what he gave the guy.this is what i,ve seen on his web-site and when i spoke with him. i ended up buying an exployer but that mxt was in my sights.may still be there.
if you're interested p.m. me. you;ll have first crack.

How much is he wanting to spend?
Remember, he will want to buy a decent pair of headphones as well which will run around $100.
Personally I would opt for a used Whites M6. Very user friendly and a great coin and jewelry machine.
If a M6 is out of his price range, I would look for a used Whites Classic ID or ID Pro.

Also, Richard at Backwoods Detectors whom sells here on this forum as an MXT for $575. Check the classifieds.

M6, as mentioned, would be good. Another good choice IMHO is the Prizm 6T. You mention your ground is mineralized so I'd recommend a machine with auto or manual ground balance. Both the M6 and Prizm 6T have auto ground balance that works very well.

Coinmaster or Coinmaster Pro by Whites not to expensive and user friendly :whites:!!

Thanks for all the suggestions folks! I will talk to my Buddy and see what he wants to do.

They are the overlooked White's, but fit the bill for the first 4 conditions. I am unsure if White's DD coil will work on them, although they are a 6.59 khz machine

Lots of fun to use, an interesting display, great on coins and jewelry

I talked to my Buddy and he said he'll have to wait until next year to buy a new detector, I hope he means January 1st. ( I told him his prioritys were all wrong when he took his family on vacation instead of buying a new detector)
Thanks for all your help and this information will still be valid when I need it.
Merry Christmas,
Idaho PRB

My buddy wanted a starter for his wifes Christmas gift. Asked my advice. I checked websites and called a couple of dealers, also called Whites. All said M-6, I ordered it for him. She is way happy with it, their yard looks gopher infested. Now he is wanting one.

All White's are good machines ,just make sure to tell him that it will have him digging holes to the center of the earth if he lets it. And not to look for stuff that is too deep to be dug.

As Ken in NC said the quantum series is a very good mach but IMHO (and I had a Quantum XT ) I think that for a newbee the QXT has quite a long learning curve which is not conducive to being a learner machine. The MXT, MXT Pro, M6 will be a lot easier to start with and the best turn on and go machines for a newbee, again JMHO. KC aka

MXT,MXT Pro
2 DX-1's Lotsa coils

I have a prizm 4,I paid $80.00 off Craigslist and IM very impressed, very easy to use and a real joy to use in the tot lots,I have an XLT too but this is so much easier and the XLT cost me $450.00.

One solid fact on purchasing any of the Whites lowest end models. They are built well and when a person moves up to an MXT family machine (or other) you'll have a second box that ANYONE can use while detecting with you. There's not much downside to a quality machine that costs so little.
