Which way to go

II was out for about 2 hours with my AT PRO and was not getting to many signals in the Pro settings so I switched to STD mode and began to get some good coin reading. I picked up two wheaties in about 5 minutes. I switched back to pro settings for a comparison and found the reading to be quite low. The penny was at 8 inches as was the other one. If I had not been concentrating I might have passed the pro setting signal by but the STD mode read good and loud. I know the std mode is not as deep as the pro settings but still pretty deep. I guess one good way to go would to sweep the area in the std mode then recover the same area in the pro mode and find the partially masked coins that are left. The way the Pro mode decreases in volume with increasing depth makes this old mans ears really have to strain to hear the really deep coins. Maybe I need a hearing aid. Any Ideas guys?

[size=large]turn up the volume on your headset. thanks for posting. i'll have to try out the std mode more often.

I don't normal use a headset and that was one of my concerns with the AT Pro in pro mode. The visual depth meter is all I need not a weakening audio signal as the depth increases.True you can use STD mode but if you start to lose depth whats the piont. I have thought about buying a At Pro but my 1500 ,2500 has been doing a good job in the past. The 2500 in all metal mode sounds load an clear whether the target is deap or not. My big problem right now is to finding new unhunted sites.I've been doing this for about 10 years and have exhausted most of the sites in the area. I still would like to buy a AT PRO in the future but until I start finding some old targets I can't justify another detector. Modern coins are all over.

Take the modern coins put them in a jar,and aloung about christmas time buy yourself a gift. You'll be surprised how they add up. I use a rock tumbler to clean the nasty dirty coins. As for using headphones, I've always used them, allows better evualuation of the audio, and doesn't attract unwanted attention from others, also extends battery life.
