Which underwater metal detector should I buy??

Hi all, I feel like I am just about to ask a question that may have been asked many times before, but models change so here we go...

I'm looking to buy a detector for depths to 150 feet, most of the time it will be shallow ie 10 to 30 feet, may be used on land as well.
Budget about $2,000 including any extras I may need.
Was thinking of the Excalibur II but its getting mixed reviews so I'm now unsure.
If you had the money what would you get and why??

thanks

I may...repeat MAY have a brand new (used ONCE) Beach Hunter ID for sale really soon if you decide to go with the "DFX of water hunting".

I have used the PI Garrett Sea Hunter back in the 80's and didn't like it at all. I have had my Excal 800 since April 08 and really think it is all it's cracked up to be.

It is one fine detector and will deliver the goods. ($1,400 w/ghost phones) It will detect a 1/4 oz split shot at 8 - 9 inches! And, it will defnitely sniff the AU.

I don't own the excal, but believe it is easier to learn than the Infinium LS which is my weapon of choice. The LS goes way deeper than the excal's, and has a variety of other uses such as Prospecting and wet beach hunting. Whatever you choose GOOD LUCK with your hunting. HH regards Nugget.

I use the Excalibur 1000 for detecting on hookah or scuba, or just plain snorkling. It'll go 250ft.

who makes a good budget ($700) detector ? that mostly will be used in about 1-3ft of water, but will get an occaisional dunking...?

I bought a used Excalibur 800 with an 8 in. coil & it works great! I've been to the lake only 5 times in a month and found my third gold ring yesterday! I'm new to water hunting, so I give all the credit to having a good detector. I'm definitely sold on the Excalibur! Try going to the Beach Detecting Forum if you don't mind reading a lot & you'll see how much gold is being found with the Minelab. Lots of luck! HH!

i have 2 1280x's 8'' and a 10" for sale with the hard box for each,, you need two of them so your scuba buddy can do it too.... deli@gomoorhead.com

I use an excal II, no problems, finds plenty of gold. I use it as an amphibious unit, dive a bunch with it and have been very happy so far. Would change the headphones to gray ghost. Other than that it has been flawless.
