Which underwater metal detector is the best for prospecting?

Minerkev

New member
I'm looking to buy a underwater metal detector for prospecting. I dont really care about discrimination features because the areas ill be working has seen very few people. The Minelab excal 2 sounds good but so does the Garrett infinium LS.. and ive always had good luck with whites and tesoro on land.. Any advice??

Since I own and use both I think the Infinium LS is the best choice for your specific needs

Prospecting with an underwater machine? Excal won't hit on tiny gold as well as a Tesoro or a Fisher. Maybe that new Garrett AT Pro would be a good option as well.

The infinium LS was developed for prospecting in Australia (the LS stands for land/sea) and unless you want to go with the 5K Minelab it is your best bet

Yeah ill be using it with a dredge. Sounds like the infinium is what im looking for.. thanks guys :)
Just don't get impatient as it has a bit of a learning curve

erik I have the dual field by whites. does the infinium operate about the same or can it hit even smaller gold(at ocean beaches).

Never had a DF but LS will pick up studs very deep. I personally don't chase small gold such as ear ring backs or studs but every once in a while one will get hung up in my scoop. None of the PI machines I have used will read a gold chain-my excal/WOT will and go as deep or deeper than either the LS or the DF with better coverage
