Which Tesoro Umax Hits Hardest On Deep Silver?

I really like Tesoro Umax detectors, because of their light weight. Which Umax and coil would you choose for deep silver? What kind of depth can one expect? Would one of the older models be a good choice?

well my Silver is no depth monster but I'm getting the 10x12 concentric to go deeper. I pull dime and nickel coins out at 4 to 6 in No CA soil and hope to boost that up by about 3 inches or more,,,,

Grouser, you must have some really bad soil in N Ca. I get 4 1/2" to 5" on a quarter using with my Compadre.

Have you ever thought about getting a detector with a manual ground balance?

Tabman, I once pulled a standing liberty quarter up from 10" with my Sidewinder. The signal was faint but it wouldn't dis out so i kept digging and know it had to be old silver. This was done with the stock 8" brown coil.I also have the bandido II umax and it's another deep coin getter.I have invited a few guys to this hunting location on different occasion and none of those machines pulled it up but the Tesoro did. Try to find one of the old Tesoro in the classified you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I've been thinking about a Bandido II Umax. I'd like to find a good deal on one.

Hitting quarters at 8" + with the Vaquero is a regular occurence when they are there, disc at foil sens at 7-8. Deepest silver as a clad dime at over 10", faint but repeatable signal.

I pulled a wheatie out at about 7 and can get quarters at 6 all day long,,, was really trying to be a little conservative on depth,,, I do wish I could GB and am saving for a upgrade but I like my Silver,,, HH

Your hearing, your ground mineralization, headphones, supertuning and dial in proper manual ground balance and one could get various depths..Although the average U-max model is a 5-6 inch unit many pull silver dimes at 8 inches learning your unit and dialing in all of the above can certainly give you extra depth.

I have hit alot of deep silver with the cibola, 6"+ on a Half Dime that was bent in a field, 8" on a Seated Dime. And it slams old coppers at 8"+ Check my video out you will see

Technically, the best on Deep silver should be a detector with AN ADJUSTABLE GROUND BALANCE,and
a LOWER KHZ. operating frequency..The older Bandito Umax, has both a MANUAL GROUND BALANCE AND A LOWER FREQUENCY of 10khz...

Similar to the Bandito,The Silver Umax also has a lower frequency 10kz.,(but no ADJUSTABLE GROUND BALANCE)..However,from what others say,the Silver Umax combined with the larger 10x12 coil goes deep on old silver!

The older Sidewinder has a little higher frequency of 12khz,(therefore a little less sensitive on deep silver), than the
lower 10khz. Bandito and Silver Umax..

Then there are the three newest Tesoro detectors: Cibola,Vaquero, and Tejon..ALL are in the
14 khz range..These higher khz. models are hotter on gold than deep silver..

Of the 3 newer units, the Tejon and Vaquero with ADJUSTABLE GROUND BALANCE are the deepest, then the Cibola,(NO ADJUSTABLE GROUND BALANCE)..Maybe for this reason some Cibola users report finding Iron, because of its lower conductivity???

ALSO, these newer models:Tejon, Vaquero, and Cibola have Tesoro's newer HOT circuit technology, for added depth/sensitivity! The increased sensitivity, combined with the higher 14 khz. frequencies, are REALLY HOT on gold!

BUT I myself prefer the older Bandito Umax,Sidewinder and Silver Umax **MODUALTED 600HZ. AUDIO** over the newer 400 hz. steady tone audio of the Vaquero,Cibola, and Tejon,(these newer units make it it harder to discern a pulltab from a coin..)

BUT AGAIN,if its depth your looking for, the Cibola ,Vaquero, and Tejon ALL have the older models beat, because of
sheer SENSITIVITY/DEPTH,with the new HOT circuit technology!!

****THERFORE,When will Tesoro combine the new HOT circuitry of the newer machines, with a LOWER TRANSMITTING FREQUENCY AND HIGHER KHZ AUDIO,( of at least 600 hz!),of the older machines???***

Speaking of the modulated audio of the older Silver Umax, (and Silver Sabre Umax),why was **TRUE ALL METAL PINPOINT** mode,(red button on older Silver Sabre Umax), dropped from the newer Silver Umax line???!!

When Tesoro came out with the newest Silver Umax, I was so happy,I thought the **ALL METAL PINPOINT**,
( red button pinpoint button from the older Silver Sabre Umax), was being replaced by a TRUE **ALL METAL PINPOINT MODE** STEEL TOGGLE SWITCH on the new Silver Umax! BUT NOT SO!!! The newer Silver Umax ALL METAL
MODE simply lowers the amount of discrimination while hunting!

********Therefore, I feel a new Tesoro model is needed, one with the HOT circuitry of the newer machines, but combined with a LOWER TRANSMITTING FREQUENCY AND HIGHER KHZ. *MODULATED AUDIO*,( of at least 600 hz!),
of the older machines.Plus my new proposed model should have a new **ALL METAL PINPOINT** STEEL TOGGLE SWITCH, (with TRUE **ALL METAL PINPOINT***), simular in operation of the older **SILVER SABRE UMAX*** red plastic button!! This **ALL METAL PINPOINT** STEEL TOGGLE SWITCH would keep the detector in **ALL METAL PINPOINT** mode,so a user would not have to keep their thumb down on a red button, while pinpointing/discerning the target!!!

For a little more money, this same model could also have a LIGHTNING FAST ***ANALOG METER***,with LARGE EASY TO READ DISPLAY reading: Iron ,Tab,Nickle, Dime,Quarter,Half.. AND EVEN BETTER YET the meter would have a back light for night hunting!!

I've written Tesoro abouth this twice, but no response....Oh Well! Lol!

Those are some really good suggestions. I'm in the market for one, because my elbow is giving me fits and I need something really light that also has some good depth.

Isn't the Bandito uMax II deeper than Bandito uMax?

I'm also thinking about the Eldorodo uMax.

Thanks Tab,

Yes the Bandito II Umax is deeper, but the older Bandito better (smoother),in iron..

The Eldorado gets real good depth, almost as deep as the newer *HOT* models Cibola,Vaq.,Tejon,etc.

I think I'm just going to settle on a Cibola myself, and send it into Tesoro for the high tone mod..

Dave

PS The new ANALOG NEEDLE machine would have maroon, gold, silver, etc.colors for the kid in all of us! Lol!

Don't know which uMax detector would be best on deep silver but I have tried the 12x10 on 3 machines and hands down the Silver uMax hit deepest, hardest, and ran smoothest at max boost. It was slightly better than Silver Sabre uMax supertuned at max boost. Even though Cortes is not a uMax, it was horrible with 12x10 coil. Ground balanced in all metal or in DISC it was noisy and not as deep as 8x9 stock coil. 12x10 on Silver uMax pinpoints within an inch, DISC seems to not affect depth much and I might even swear that high DISC amplifies deep signals, I don't know. Makes it simple to hit deep silver in my soil that is for sure.

It's hard to find a used Silver uMax detector for sale. I'd buy one if I could. I like the way Tesoro detectors pinpoint.

I wonder how the 12 x 10 would work on my Eldorado uMax?
