Which Tesoro Model To Buy? NEED YOUR HELP!

Prospector

New member
I am thinking of buying another detector to hunt for coins around old home sites and possibly occasional relic hunting. I am trying to stay within a certain price range and am considering the following: Silver Umax, Cibola, and Vaquero. I used to own an old (large control box) Silver Sabre. It was a good detector, but did not have much depth. I have heard that the newer Tesoros have much better depth than the old ones. Can anyone compare the three models above as to depth and versatility? Also, what kind of depth can you get in average soil on a penny, nickle, dime, quarter? I read some post that said the Silver Umax was really good on silver coins. It also is priced right, but doesn't have very many features. Is it in the same league as the other two I listed? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

the Vaquero would be my choice of the ones you have posted

Hay Prospector,

If you are a casual coin shooter, I would suggest the Silver uMax. It is a great turn on and go detector.

But sense you have another detector I assume you have more needs than that.

If you have mild to moderate soil conditions, the Cibola will do nicely. It goes deeper than the Silver and is better at finding relics.

How ever hunting old home sites may involve challenging soil conditions. Relic hunting can involve different challenging environments. Some people aren't even aware that bad soil conditions are giving them problems. They just know it's hard to find anything.

If soil conditions are an issue for you, I would suggest the Vaquero. It is a very good all around detector. They are a delight to swing.:detecting:

HH,

I'd recommend buying the Vaquero for one main reason. It has manual Ground Balance. Although the Cibola will be about the same in depth hunting over mild to moderate ground if you would happen to get into ground that is hotter the manual ground balance will be a help.

Hellow Prospector, I'v got a Vaquero, had it for 9 months now and found my first merc, indian head and many wheats with it. Found a wheat at 8" once but most the rest was 6" or less. I like it very much, but LOVE my new Tejon.

The Vaquero would be my first choice due to the manual ground balance. The Vaquero and Cibola has that HOT technology.
The Silver uMax is a nice machine that I enjoy for the simplicity. It may not have that HOT technology but it does better than I expected. It gets enough depth for most of the hunting I do.
The Cibola has done well for me in coin hunting. Ground conditions allowed me to get good depth. But if ground conditions get a little to hot, then I would prefer a manual ground balance machine.

Also had the Vaquero and now I have the Tejon. Enjoyed both.

I have hit quarters as deep as 8 inches with my Vaquero in mild ground.
