I'm looking to start cleaning the coins I have recovered. And wondering which toilet bowl cleaner is recommended ??
Is clr a product I should or should not use to clean the coins ?

just modern....

Don't know about toilet cleaners etc. I use a tumbler with water and a spoonful of dish detergent for 12 hours or so.

I'm hoping Monte will chime in I know he says he only runs his coins about 15 mins in the tumbler.
But I'm not sure if it is CLR he uses first?
Planning on ordering a harbor freight tumbler and walking to the pet store....
My trip to Ca seems to have cost me some coins. I seem to be about $30 short in my coin bin.
roughly all quarters. The problems with strangers coming in to do health care.

my tumbler. Spin them for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours and they are like Mint ok. I promise it will work ok. I don't know why but the powdered version of TIDE does not work as good ok. I got tired of paying $5 for the Cleaning Powder so I started experimenting with everything I could think of. Yep, It is TIDE. I don't know why but it works like a champion. When done just rinse and dry then. There is no film or residue left on the coins either ok. Best Wishes. PEACE:RONB :detecting:

do you also use the gravel ?

I have tried pea gravel, sand and other things for tumbling coins and found that just the coins, some water and a dash of soap gets them good enough for the coin machine.
I have a home made tumbler using a 4 inch dia PVC pipe with plumbers caps at the end. Tumbling chamber is about a foot long and can put 3 to 4 pounds of coins in a batch. Cleaned about $600 worth of clad last winter over about a 3 day period that way. CLR works but it is pretty unforgiving if you mix a penny with your dimes. You will have a whole batch of pink looking dimes.
