Which Surfmaster? What is the difference?

Pumping Iron

New member
I have the chance to buy either a used "Whites Surfmaster Mk1" or a "Whites Surfmaster Pro", both lightly used.
I will only be using for wet salt beach, and shallow water.
Can anyone comment on --

* The differences between the machines.
* Which is the better machine, Depth / stabilty etc?
* Or should I just keep saving up, and buy a new "Surfmaster PI dual field" ?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I have both, a Surfamster pro and a DF.
I don't even take in consideration the "mk1", I would definitely go for a DF, it's a deeper machine and you have the option to adjust pulse timing that is really useful to adapt for environmental noise (waves, emi, etc).
As for stability, they are all "nervous" machines so get ready for it. Discerning background noise from deep targets sounds is almost an art on these machines.
Get ready to dig a ton of iron!
