They are both great detectors, but the GT is the better one for me hands down. It is more sensitive which can be a problem for some as it may false on some iron more and seem to pick up smaller items. You can turn on or off the iron mask with the GT which I always leave on, but with it off it runs smoother for those learning it, but you will not see the close coins to iron like when it is on, which all but the original were on all the time. It also has a tracking mode if you ever wanted to use it for gold hunting where you can also lock it to one setting if you want. Both the Elite and the GT has a noise toggle switch so you can change the freq between 1 or 2 in case you get some electrical interference or if you are hunting next to another Sovereign. Another feature the GT has which I don't use myself, but can see where it is help full and that is the switch for silent search as if I was detecting a large Field trying to find where the action was I would use it being the Sovereigns keep the tones of the last target it see, which is iron mostly and after it nulls on iron the threshold come back at a very low tone, almost a growl, so with the silent search you wouldn't have to listen to it and just wait for a good tone.
Two of the things I didn't care for on the Elite was the control were in different location than any of the other Sovereign and could get bumped easier and to me with 3 different ones I tried the signals sounded deeper than the actually were which with my bad hearing the tones were harder to hear on the deeper ones.
Like I say they are both great detectors, but I feel the GT is the better of the 2, for me anyway.
