Which Pinpointer to buy with Minelab CTX 3030

Hi Everyone. Been a while since I last posted a message in here. I was wondering, since there is no in-line pinpointer probe for the CTX 3030 which one are you guys/gals using. The Minelab Pro-Find 25, Garrett Pro-Pointer or any others ? Also, anyone have any issues with the new wireless headphones that come with the 3030 ? Thanks.

I have both the Minelab ProFind and the Garrett Propointer. Both are similar and have slightly different features. I like using the Minelab with both my Teknetics T2SE and White's V3i because the Garrett causes too much EMI around them. Not so with the CTX-3030. The Garrett works beautifully with it with no interference.

The Minelab has adjustable gain, vibrate only mode, and also has a feature that it will begin to beep after a minute if you leave it behind and need to search for it. It is sensitive on the sides to the tip.

The Garrett has a louder beep, better vibration. and is sensitive along the blade to the tip. It is also $40 cheaper.

Unless you plan on using another brand of detector, go with the Garrett.

Uniprobe

does the uni probe plug into the detector as well to work with the audio of the detector? Sry not trying to hijack the OP thread.

I use a Pro pointer, but am looking for something deeper. On my Etrac I use a sun ray probe and when I get close I use the Pro Pointer, I think this is the best approach for me. I would like something similar for the CTX. I have been researching Treasure Products Vibra Probe 580 and their new model Vibra Quatic 2, both are pi units and waterproof to 100 ft. I am considering the Vibra Quatic 2, because it has a two in. head and the switching to the pro pointer, when I get close. Has anyone used eiter of these and what is your opinion? Thanks Charles

Yes, the Uniprobe is a combination detector heaphones/probe...Works great with the wireless module.. If plugging direcly into the CTX it doesnt turn of the CTX speaker without using a adapter or doing the jumper mod...wildherre

What is the advantage to the uniprobe? You have this big corded probe dangling from your headphones constantly, I see it as being more of a nuisance than anything. Is there really any advantage to it over the wireless and light propointer which causes zero interference with the CTX?

Roughly twice the depth of a Pro Pointer, sounds in the headphones....wildherre

I concur Wildherre... Love my Uniprobe ...

i love the garrett pro pointer ,very durable, battery last pretty long, its the best shape and size i feel,,,only wish is garrett to water proof it

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Minelab or the Garrett. FWIW, I use the Minelab, simply because when I ordered the Garrett, Bart was out of stock, and asked if he could substitute the Minelab for the same price.

I hunt in very wet areas and my Pro Pointer would get so muddy that I had to wash it off after every hunt, and some times during hunts.
After a good cleaning with Simple Green and thorough drying, I did two things to improve it.
1.) Made it more visible.
2.) Made it water proof.

How?

I used the same product (Plasti-Dip) in two different forms. Dipable in Red, and aerosol spray in Clear.

* First, I dipped the tip in the Red up about 3" and let it cure enough to handle. Did this several times to build a nice bright red layer that protects the tip from wear, and also gives it a contrasting color so it is easily seen when it gets a bit darker outside.

* Second, I sprayed the entire Pro Pointer from the tip all the way up to about a half inch from the battery cap with the Clear. Letting this cure for several hours, I would repeat this until there was a nice clear rubbery textured feel to it. Yes, I covered the LED hole, as well as the rubber switch cover.

This stuff is extremely durable, and flexable and I would say that at least 80% of the LED light will still get through the many layers enough to light up a hole in the dark.
Now, with the screw on cap with the O-ring, and the entire lower section sealed, it is good for underwater work no problem.
Advantages to using the clear Plasti-Dip over say Silicon goo is that you can apply layers one at a time to build the thickness you desire.
And even after say 6-7 coats it is not very obvious that it is even on there.
Also, it bonds really well, but you can peel it all back off if you ever desire. It takes muscle to pull it, but you don't have to scrape it off or use any chemicals, just peel like you are skinning a catfish. It stretches as you pull.

Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate it !

I find the depth of this probe is what I need using the CTX and if the coin target is on edge it can throw off pinpointing several inches to the side of the hole and the Uni probe can see it so you don't have to dig deeper or bigger hole. I use a jumper cord so the speaker will not work with the headphone plugged in. Most people must like them as they are hard to find used, but you may see a few pocket probes out there, but those built into the headphones are rare to find used.

I miss the sun ray probe that was on my etrac, they need to come out with a handheld pinpointer that discriminates out iron.
