Which optional coil is best for X-Terra 50?

Prospector

New member
I recently bought an X-Terra 50 that comes with a free coil of my choice. I have used an X-30 as well as X-50 with a stock coil and had great success on coins and rings around fresh water beaches. I have also used the 5x10 DD elliptical as well. It doesn't seem to have near as much depth as the stock coil. Here is my question. If you were getting a free optional coil of your choice, which of these 3 would you get? A. One of the new 6" coils, B. The 5x10 elliptical, or C. The 10" DD 7.5 hz. I have heard that the 10 is much deeper than the stock coil, can someone give me some comparisons. Thanks!

A. The 10.5 DD 7.5KHz will be deepest & waterproof.
B. The 5x10 HF will be hot on small low conductors, is only water resistant & floats, but can be sealed.
C. The six inch DD HF will be very hot on small low conductors, is waterproof, has great separation.
D. The six inch CC MF will be better on copper/silver than the small HF DD & is waterproof.

You need to clearly define what it is you're most interested in finding, at what depths, in what kinds of trash, and what soil conditions? Then we can whittle it down to a choice.

Would like a coil that has enough depth and target seperation that can be used on old home sites. May also use for jewerly on freshwater beaches and wading.

10.5 DD 7.5KHz.......then later if you want better trash ability, the 6 inch DD HF + hot on gold for the beach. These are just my thoughts, not the last word by any means.

Based on your statements, I'd recommend that you consider the 10-inch DD at 18.75 kHz. It is the same sized coil as the 10-inch at 7.5 kHz. And it, too, is waterproof. But at 18.75 kHz, it should be more sensitivity to lower conductive (jewelry) targets for your beach hunting. Don't sweat the higher frequency while ground hunting at old homesites. All three coil frequencies will do well on US coins. Who knows? With a username like Prospector, you might find yourself hunting for some nuggets. And the higher frequency will serve you well there too! JMHO HH Randy
