I currently use a Vaquero and have had good luck with it, but is there a better coin hunter in Tesoro's line up.:tesoro::thumbup:

What kind of coin hunting? Do you hunt parks and tot lots or do you hunt older properties where you may need more depth and sensitivity? What are your likes and dislikes about your Vaquero?

I enjoy hunting older sites and parks and school yards, for the most part I am happy with the Vaquero. This is my first Tesoro and was wondering for coin hunting is there a better model. I started detecting in the early 70's and have used many differant makes and model's. I did alot of research before I ordered my V. I belong to a detecting club and I am the only one to use a Tesoro so I am just trying to bounce some questions off other Tesoro owners. Thanks:shrug:

I think you are using a very good coin machine, personally.

I have a golden umax, a silver umax, and a Tejon. The silver is an excellent coin machine, that really likes the deep dimes for some reason, at least mine does. My Golden had the 4 tones, but I generally only use three of them (disc out the iron). I have found myself lately setting the disc as low as I can without picking up iron, and digging everything. I am finding more nickels now, but I am also digging more pulltabs and other junk as well. The golden is my favorite coin machine for hunting the parks and playgrounds, especially with the notch feature....which takes some practice and getting used to, but it really does work and it is helpful. My Tejon...it is very sensitive, and deeper than the other two, so I have to be more careful about what I dig with it, as I found myself with a 9 inch hole at the local park real quick like...and I did get the quarter, but I am not a fan of going that far down in the parks.....but that's just me. I have also found jewelry with my Tejon, due to the fact that I run my disc very low(prior owner setpoints :) ) and I dig everything, as I am still in learning mode with it, and probably will be for quite some time.

I have never hunted with a Vaquero, so I cant offer an opinion on them other than the reviews that I have read and the things that other folks say about them on these forums. Your depth should be on par, or very near the Tejon for coins, which is greater than the silver and the golden umax's plus you have ground balance option on yours which will definitely help in hunting different types of ground.

Have you considered the Cortes or the DeLeon? They have the TID screens if that might be what you are looking for?

Thanks Little John, I like to hear the opinion of other Tesoro user's. I feel the best detector out there won't be any use too you if you don't take the time to learn it. Early this year I sold my blue box detector which cost over two times what I payed for my V, and my finds are just as good. Thanks for the reply and happy hunting to you.:clapping:

The V. will get those deep coins. You could turn up the Disc to accept only coins. I had a V, sold it to a friend, he loves it. I now have a Cortes and a Golden Umax. In most cases the Cortes usually gives more info about the target than the Golden, but the Golden is more pleasant to use when targets are numerous, simply listen to the tones, no meter to glance at with every beep. The notch system will reject many tabs and still get ladies gold rings, but class rings and mens rings are heavier and will be rejected along with the tabs when using Notch. Both machines will ID a coin down to 6" deep in good soil.

what tesoro should consider doing in my opinion,is develop a detector with "tejon"
depth and (v.i d.)..along with 4 distinct tones!..this type of detector would be an outstanding detector in every hunting scenario
and keep the u-max configuration,as well as the lifetime warranty...i would buy this detector in a heartbeat, and i believe so will
many,many others!..vince!..are you listening?

I think that would be a great detector as well, however it would probably hurt the sales on several of their other models dont you think? Matter of Fact I would pay even more for the options you mentioned...but I could live without the TID....just sayin.

you are correct!..apparently tesoro has literally "shot themselves" in the foot!
they have built a fine rep as a beep and dig detector,so yess!..sales on their other detectors would probably take
a "hit" as a result!..worth considering!..though!

Heck I would buy one...and I am sure plenty of folks would too!!!! NOt Like they haven't made changes along the way with their detectors to please their customers.......right?
