Which one for me?

DFX-Gregg

Well-known member
Already asked a few people for help. Am better off with > dfx, mxt, xlt, or m6 for parks mainly thanks.

Hi gregor63, I have a MXT and love it, my friend got a dfx. Now he got a fisher, and let,s his dfx sit, because he won,t take the time to learn it. It is hard to learn if you are not a collage grad. No not that bad. but it is hard. With the mxt you can just turn it on and go. very good dector. It will out perform a dfx that sits in a case anyday It is up to you. but for one of whites best mxt. good luck Dean

Dean the only thing is here in Chicago I would mainly br hitting parks probably would not need the relic mode on mxt, how about the m6?

As you can see by my name I use an XLT and love it. The XLT is deadly in parks, around old houses and schools, etc. It is also one heck of a relic machine. Probably the most popular machine Whites has ever sold. HH

For the difference in price go with the MXT. You may not need the relic or prospecting mode but they are nice to have if you ever need them. I have the MXT and an XLT and for parks and sport fields my MXT outperforms the XLT every time out.

MXT or XLT....MXT is user friendly turn on and go but an XLT has more
facets with a learning period and once learned is a superior unit and surely one of Whites best sellers..DFX is probably overkill and M6 doesn't supply as much info..Of course a lot depends on your pocketbook so would visit a Whites dealer for a first hand look...

Thanks, money is no problem, I want to go out and find coins/jewelry. I am doing this as a hobby not trying to get rich! I have enough$$$. So please if possible more feedback would be nice. I am extremely surprised at lack of dfx responses!!! That was #1 on list ... not anymore? Please helppp!!!Have an old coinmaster di 6000 series 3, but going to use that as back up. So I want the best thanks for all those who have answered, more feedback would be appreciated.

Had an XLT. Traded it in on a DFX. Did not like the DFX. Traded it for an MXT. MXT is ok but had to have another XLT. Love the XLT. Have had about 40 detectors in 28 years detecting. Still have 11. The XLT is the the one for me.Whites has been making the XLT for 12 or 13 years. No other manufacturer has made any one detector anywhere near that long.

Jack, that is the feeling I am getting everyone seems to like the xlt, asked local dealer about dfx and m6 on phone, it was like he ignored me and said "well why don't you come in and try the xlt"!

for park hunting coins and jewelry the dfx is by far my favorite.strap on a small coil and let the tone id do the work.the m6 is certainly no slouch either but i would suggest a shooter coil for it too.i like the xlt too but the response time is just a lot slower than the dfx.i would go with the dfx.it takes a while to learn if you want to get the most out of it but even when i didn't know what i was doing it was still impressive.as for a back up?you won't need it.it's kinda like the difference between a big screen color tv and an old portable black an white.you won't ever go back.sounds like you've already made up your mind, good choice.

gregor63; Have owned 3 XLT's and two MXT's, I now have the M6, which for me is the best Park hunter I have ever owned. Have been hunting since 1992. HH Steve.

I must agree with jack, the XLT is still probably the best overall Whites detector ever. I had a DFX and it did not perform as good as an Eagle spectrum in my area so i traded it back in less than 2 months for a new XLT and love it.The XLT in my opinion is superb for hunting large areas quickly with the larger coils and the moderate trash areas with 8" and 5.3 coils but for the trashiest areas you need an alternative
Have a modified IDX Pro and sold my favorite little Fisher 1236x2 after i realized what it would do in the trashy areas.

Recently purchased an M6 and now i'm having a hard time deciding where to use the IDX.The M6 is absolutely great for trashy park hunting as it has better coil selection has optional 7 tone ID, auto GB, better target resolutions and more sensitive to smaller lower conductive targets.

So now what now ? IMHO the XLT will hit on about 80% of what your looking for with various coil combinations and an M6 will be a bit more selective and will pick out items the XLT just can't hit with smaller coils, but hunts slower and has a quicker target response and recovery time. Decisions Decisions :) HH Bill

I have owned a Mxt and traded for the M6. I would recomend mutiple tone ID. The XLT with it's lower freq. would be better on deeper silver. I have found nice stuff with my whites detectors. Like many others I have considered the DFX but backed off. I wait for the new model. HH

Thanks for your opinion robocoin, I am just surprised more dfx users did not come forward with an opinion, makes me wonder a little....

Steve thank you are your advice, I sent you a personal message when you get the chance to read, thanks Gregg.

Greg. what ever you decide the Xmas packages are out and whites Is giving $100 to $200 worth of accessories with there machines depending on which one you buy. Just got a new DFX and $200 worth of accessories with it. If you decide on the DFX make sure you buy the book digging deeper with the DFX by Jeff Foster. I bought the book and liked what i read and then bought the DFX also check with the people on the DFX forum. Hope this helps.
