Which of the detectors for 2nd detector

alton

New member
I have a Excal, but need a 2nd detector when I take my friend. I'm considering 1280X, Tigershark, and Beach Hunter ID. If I use the Excal, I could let him use one of those 3.

If I let him use the Excal, I could consider Whites PI Pro, Infinium LS, Sea Hunter MKII, or possible the Sand Shark.

Everything above this would be pushing my budget for right now.

I would be using these in fresh and salt water. Even though I would have it for my friend to use, I also would like to have it to expand my detecting capabilities.

What would you get and why?

TIA
Alton

Well here's a couple of thoughts. If you are hunting saltwater at
all, then a multi-frequency detector is better(less chatter) or
a PI unit(the PI Pro would be hard to beat-but you will dig a
lot of very deep junk. You can't hardly beat that Excal with
anything. The Beach Hunter would give you a good compromise for
land and water hunting. But check whatever unit you buy for
cross-talk with the Excal.Otherwise I'd say find another Excal,
maybe another coil size, but they do cross-talk when close to
each other.Good luck on your choice.HH Joe
