Sounds like you hunt the same type of places I hunt. When I use the X-50, I like to hunt in the all metal mode. The reason being that I can hear the low tones of the nails and other ferrous items that might indicate where activity took place. When I get into one of those spots, I slow down my sweeps and take a little more time covering that area, concentrating on higher tones. However, I hunt with my X-70 in Pattern 1, with notch number 48 also "Xed" out. I set my threshold so it just barely makes a faint background hum. This allows me to hear the ferrous items "blanking" and still gives me a solid hit on the items that are not being rejected. It is as close to silent search that I have found, and still allow me to know where the ferrous targets are hiding. I have also been using the three tone mode, as found on the X-30. The 99 tones don't really prove anything to me, except entertainment and confusion! I like the three tone because it sounds the same for IH cents as it does silver. And, regardless of which of those it turns out to be, I want to dig it anyway. Makes very little sense to me to have one tone for dimes and most copper cents, and a separate tone for quarters. If it is silver or copper, I don't mind digging it first and knowing what denomination it is after I see it! HH Randy
