would be the best selection for hunting just jewlry in the dry and wet (and sometimes very mineralized) beach sand and waters edge (or lightly into it). Not looking for one with a submersible control box. Thanks.

If you are only looking for a Sov, then the GT would probably be your best bet. It can pull up a good ID on some really weak hits.

I do see a couple possible problems.......

A sov can handle some pretty bad ground, but there is a limit. If the mineral (black sand, hot rocks) is too extreme to hunt in disc mode you will need to hunt in all metal mode. You might even need to use a PI unit. Hunting without discrimination is probably not something you want to do if there is a lot of iron junk.

The GT tends to hit on rocks and iron more than my older 2a does. Have found that turning the iron mask OFF knocks them out better.

Would be good if you can post the general beach areas that you will be hunting. It would be good if someone who has hunted these areas with an Xcal or Sov can chime in and tell us if there is going to be any problem .
