which is the better detector?

I am going to purchase a new detector but i am stuck between theMXT or the Xterra70. Wich is the better detector and easier to use?

I have both detectors but seeing that you are on the MXT forum I will have to say MXT. Now if you go on the X-Terra forum I might say XT-70. Both are great detectors and both have reasonable learning curves and are easy to use. Good luck with your decision. HH Dennis in Idaho

Tough question to answer. Both are excellent detectors and both get about the same depth on a similar objects. It's hard to say which is actually better and that depends on what you are hunting. The MXT is far better as a prospecting detector, for me the MXT is better at relic hunting. For coins the MXT is going to do better if a coin is on edge but the X Terra is going to give a better signal for a deeper coin. The MXT has many choices when it comes to coil selection but the X Terra has a great concept for frequency change with coil selection. I am partial to Whites, one because of the consistant quality they produce, and second because of the great customer service they provide. If I could only choice between the two detectors in front of me I would take the MXT, just my opinion and 5 years of use with my MXT. But I will close on mentioning that either detector you buy, just know you have a made an excellent decision on a very good detector. Good Luck and HH

I have the MXT. I have given much thought to wether to get the x-50 or x-70.
What I have gleaned from everyones response's to my question is that the MXT and X-70 are neck in neck
with the x-70 being slightly ahead in some respects. One thing for sure however
is the x-70 is MUCH lighter than the MXT. The x-70 allows you to shift frequencies for different purposes where as
you are stuck with the 14.75 khz on the MXT. Being able to shift frequencies can be a big advantage.

Give Kellyco a call, talk to there sales rep. tell them what your needs are and how you plan to use it, they will tell you which one would be best for your needs. They are not parcel they sell both detectors.

If you have any knee or back issues you should buy the Xterra so you won't have to dig as deep as you would have to using the MXT.
Just kidding. They are two completely different animals. You have to try and figure which one suits you best. I will tell you this, I hunted with a group this weekend and there were a couple of Xterras 70 users. They had not had them very long so it may or may not be a fair comparison but they were as deep but not deeper than my MXT and no better at identification than the MXT or you could say they were just as good as the MXT. Completely different animal though and not for me.

I have an X-Terra 70 and love it. I have not used the Whites detectors so I really can't tell you that one is better than the other. What I can tell you is that I have found the 70 very easy to learn and the selection of coils really makes for a very versatile detector. The light weight of the 70 makes it easy to swing for long periods of time and the 4 AA batteries seem to last forever. Go to the X-Terra section and read the FAQFAQ section at the top. It will clearly show you how the 70 works and what it is capable of. Whichever detector you get, I'm sure you will make many great finds.
