Prospector, I have put a LOT of hours on the 1236 and Edge and IMO both are great for use around old home sites since both have very good target seperation. Either one will suprise you with finds in iron. In my ground the Edge gets better results depthwise and can be set to run quieter. I have neither machine now but given a choice it would be the Edge.
Prospector,I have used both units and thought the 1236X-2 was deeper. Both break down really well for a back pack. The 1236 is very simple straight forward to use some don't like the pops and clicks in heavy trash but that didn't bother me.The Edge reminded me of a slot machine with the numbers always spinning. For me the ID Edge seemed to bounce more than on other units.I think the 1236X-2 like the 1266X would excel over the ID Edge for relic hunting.Good Luck Ron
i owned an id edge and it was an ok machine but has very weak audio. i have a new 1236 coming soon so i can't comment on its performance yet, but have owned all of the 1200 series fishers except the 1270, and they will blow the id edge out of the water as far as depth goes, not even close here in my soil. go with a 1200 series fisher and you won't be sorry. they can be a tad noisy at some sites but you get used to it.......good luck and happy hunting...........roger
probably the 1270 is the deepest of all the 1200 series detectors but its really a relic machine very sensitive machine don't get me wrong it will find coins but i 've read alot of posts where if want to hunt coins with this you got to have the 5" coil then its simalar in performance to the 1236x2, frequencies are different to the 1270 runs at 8.2 khz where the 1236x2 has variable from 5.5 to 5.9khz you really can't go wrong with either machine, the only down fall of the 1270 is that it's on the heavy side weighing in at 3.5lbs and another good thing about these fishers for beach hunting they are one of the few that won't false alot of signals!
