Did some experimenting today with a 4x6 dd & the 6x10 both have about the same depth. Looking at the other coils that are available for the MXT I was wondering if anyone out there has used the 6" excelerator & if so how deep will it go for coins. I know the larger the more depth but also the more trash you get. The soil was very wet today & I was only getting about 5 to 6 " on both. I don't know if the wetness had something to do with it or not but it seems that I have gotten about 8" before.

wet soil should make it go deeper but sometimes it can be too wet and you have to lower the sensitivity.

There is no contest, the 6" is deeper. Rob

A good rule of thumb on comparing odd size coils is the smallest side is used for the comparison. The 4X6 is more likely to have a depth of a 4 inch round coil yet have the coverage of a 6 inch coil. The 6 inch coil should win big time over the 4X6 for depth.

No the 6" isn't better than the 6x10" each has their use. They would, however, get about the same depth using the rule of thumb Larry gave. This rule was also given by Carl Moreland a Whites engineer. Your original question was which is deeper. Both the 6" and 6x10" are deeper than the 4x6". Rob

Thanks for the infoit sounds like if I want depth I have to go to a larger coil & put up with more trash.

In my opinion the 4.5x7 DD Excelerator and the 6" DD Excelerator both get better depth than the 4x6 by how much I can't say for a fact. I did not like my 4x6 from the start because of its small size, which required me to go really slow so as not to miss any targets and I felt the depth was not much more than 4 inches. The two mentioned Excelerator coils have bigger foot prints allowing you to cover more area. I noticed that when I got them that my finds increased significantly. Both of the coils, thought somewhat larger than the 4x6 get great target separation in high trash areas. My wife uses the 4.5x7 and I use the 6" and the 4x6 sits in a drawer. HH Dennis in Idaho
