Which is better for coins & old home sites the Cibola or Silver U-Max?

Thinking about getting a Tesoro to use primarily for parks, freshwater beaches and old home sites. Most people talk about the Cibola in terms of a relic machine. The Silver U-Max may be more versatile. Which of the two would work better for me, and how much difference in depth would they be if I had a 8x9 coil for the Silver? Any other info or input would be appreciated.

In my opinion, either would do a pretty fair job of everything you mention. The Cibola should give a bit more depth and should be just fine for coins in parks etc. Add a 5.75" coil for the trashier areas and you'd be pretty well set - and, it will already have the 9X8 coil.
My two cents,
BB.

Hello there, if your on a budget the silver umax will not let you down and with the 12 x 10 coil addition it's a kick but machine if your in good ground even with the stock coil i've dug wheat pennies at 7" plus

The Cibola has a true all metal that you select with the pinpoint button and you can adjust the threshold.
In my mind those features add versatility over the Silver uMax and give you more options on setting up for your hunting conditions. I like the pin point for sizing targets and listening to the VCO in pinpoint for some depth information too.

But then I had one hoot of a time today with a Compadre and left the other detectors (including the Cibola) home.

Either one you end up with you can't go wrong.

Depending on the soil conditions where your hunting the Vaquero with the manual GB might better choice over the Cibola

I had the Tejon, Vaquero, and Cibola. I sold them and kept the Silver Umax and Compadre. Can;t really knock the cibola, but I feel I have all I need with the Silver Umax.

For the price of a new Cibola you can just about get a new SIlver Umax and a used Compadre.

This is only my opinion < I have owned both and the cibola was a deeper machine and i loved the 8x9 coil and another good thing about the cibola is its sensitivity knob really works well you can turn that baby way down and you can turn it way up you use both the threshold and sensitivity knob in disc mode to adjust sensitivity ,, whats nice about turning down the sensitivity is that it will not bark at every tiny piece of foil but it will bark at the coins and round things and you still have a very good choice of coils one of which would be the 5.75 the silver is a bit of a wimp but I have heard it is very deep using the 10x12 coil but i would not run much disc using the 10x12 as it is prone to masking so you will dig lots of trash but it may get you some deep coins I never tried the 10x12 widscan on the cibola some say its only 1" deeper than the stock coil and is heavy but does handle the bad ground better still if it was me the cibola all the way
