Which is better choice x terra 50 with both coils or sovereign gt which goes deeper. thanks n/t

This is like comparing these 2 cars as they are not in the same category. Both are great, but you will find the GT will go deeper, but there is a bigger learning curve too. The GT with all its different tones and if you run a Minelab or a 180 meter you will have a better ID also as this meter read 1 number at a time for the close trash versas good targets while the X-Terra 50 reads every 3 numbers. The X-Terra is lighter, don't have to swing the coil as slow and a very impressive detector, but not made to replace the GT BBS or the Quattro or Explorer FBS for ID or depth of detection.
Just because the detector is better will mean you will do better as it depends on how well you know it.

How deep do you need to go? And how fast do you want to hunt? The reason I ask is because, if you like to hunt for those old coins like I do, either detector will probably go as deep as you need in Ohio. I know they both do all I need in Iowa. But, I will add that slow sweeping is not my style. I nearly went nuts waiting for the Elite or the GT to reset between targets. And believe me, going nuts is a short trip for me some days! Seriously, both are excellent detectors. Both will find coins or jewelry. The two questions I pose are not made in a joking manner. If you feel you need to dig over 9 to 10 inches deep, you should get the Sovereign and a big coil. If 9 inches will find most of the targets you pass over, then either will do. If you like to slow hunt, then the Sovereign might be what you are looking for. If you want notch discrimination, take the X-Terra. If you want a wider variety of coils (OEM and Aftermarket), take the Sovereign. The one you chose should be the one that best fits your sites and your style of hunting. HH Randy

Exactly, Digger !

I own a XP G-Maxx with a very high recovery speed since end of aug. In september or october I bought I Explorer II.

What a mistake. It has NO recovery speed, EAT batteries and is way TOO HEAVY.

As you say :
IT
DROVE
ME
NUTS
!!!

Since 2 months I am using the X-Terras 50 now and it is perfect.

So the question is very simple : which detector is FUN ?
Because : when & if it is FUN you'll use it.
And when & if you use it, you'll use it FOR HOURS.
And when & if you do that, you'll FIND THINGS !

Do you still have the G-MAXX and if so, do you like it? I was asked to be part of a field test for the XP G-Maxx here in the US this past summer. Although it is definitely a lightweight detector, I couldn't get the results out of it that I had hoped. It had good depth and both coils were extremely lightweight. But I had problems with the wireless headphones, pinpointing, target separation and consistency in the multi-tone mode. That thing just loved old iron! Maybe the unit I was testing just wasn't set up for US operation??? Curious how you like yours. HH Randy

I don't have a wireless headphone. I would NEVER use one (remember the law of Murphy ?).

My XP G-maxx was/is excellent. Very lightweight, I could use it for 4-5-6-7 hours, never had to stop (hip mount, that is !!).

There IS no pinpointing but I NEVER missed that. I never had any problems to find my targes, LESS THEN I HAVE NOW WITH MY X-TERRA 50 (INCLUDING THE PINPOINTING) !

Separating targets ? I used it on the dry sand of the beach = lots & lots of rubbish. Never any problem. But then of course, I used it for one or 2 months, many hours a day. I "grew" with it. It is all a matter of getting used to the sounds, I guess...

Besides, it was my first detector in 18 years (once had a very complicated Whites, 18 years ago) and he gave me much satisfaction.

No doubt : the X-Terra 50 IS better, but the XP was a lot of FUN, too.
