Which is better 5x10DD or 8.5x11DD

I just got the GTI 1500 and I love it So far I just ordered the 4.5 sniper coil and was wondering about the 5 x 10 DD OR the 8.5 x 11 DD coils which is better they cost about the same. I know that the 8.5 x 11 is what the Ace 350 and the AT Pro come with But is it better than the 5 x 10 Just wondering which would be the best for my money? Thank You

Those two coils don't have the imaging. However, the 12.5" does....just some food for thought. Imaging is one of the best features of the GTI series. If you don't have many issues with mineralization in your area, I would suggest the 12.5" coil. That way you have the small (sniper), medium (stock coil) and large. Now DD coils as a rule poke a little deeper in higher mineralized soils. But, large coils don't fair well in trashy areas. More then one target under a coil can give confusing signal, or mask a good target. I have all three imaging coil and have used all of them. I mostly use the sniper and stock coil, but use the large coil in large areas with minimum trash. Hope this helps.......

Below is a link on search coils you might find helpful if you have not already seen it.

John, did you misspeak, or, are there 3 imaging coils?

There are only two. The stock and the large 12.5"......the sniper does not have the imaging. Once you get good with the sniper coil, you can guesstimate the size and depth quite accurately.

Rich.
I can't speak for the 805x11, but I can speak quite highly of the 5x10 coil. The GTI's recovery time increases quite a bit with this coil on and despite it's lack of imaging, I find the you can hear how big a targte is with this coil, up to csrew cap size anyway. Targets smaller than a screw cap, like coins, will you half to most of a tone, depending on their size. Once a target is the sive of an aluminium screw cap and bigger, all targets give you a full tone.

Thanks all for your help I got my sniper from Kellyco today and have not had a chance to try it going to the park tomorrow and give it a try I did notice a penny read low on the scale why bench testing well see what happens in well life excited to give t a try and I am thinking the next coil well be the 12.5 for the GTI thanks again for all your input.....Rich

The imaging coils are nice, but even with limited use of the 5 X 10 coil at this time, I love it. I have the 12.5 and 9.5 proformance coils and the 5 X 10 DD and the sniper coil and I am really excited about the 5 X 10 coil. Granted, I am just an inexperienced peon, but it appeals to me. I seem to be able to work a lot faster with it than the imaging coils.

I don't think there are peon's in here we are all learning I have been metal detecting for over 30 years But I have only started loving it with the new metal detectors they have now, when I first started if you did not want to dig up every thing you had to turn your discrimination up to reject pull tabs but then you would never find nickels today you can do both reject pull tabs and find nickels. I bought a Ace 350 and fill in love with it But I keep hearing about the imaging and I bought the GTI 1500 because i did not see that much difference from the 2500 if I know then what I know now I would of spent the other 250 for it But I love my 1500 and well keep it for awhile. My grand kids use the 350 they are not that good yet But they well get better. Thank you for your reply and good luck in your finds. I have found more in the past 30 days than I have in the past 30 years not in numbers but in silver and the older coins That is what makes this hobby So dam much fun...Rich

That 5"x10"DD has been my favorite search coil for a number of years now(on any macine). After having used the 8.5"x11"DD I am very much leaning towards it now being my favorite search coil. It is deeper, but if you're searching in an area that has alot of brush/shrubs it will get snagged up in it where as the 5"x10" won't. Either way, they are both great search coils.:wiggle:
Ya done good by gettin' that 4.5" Scorcher/Sniper. It's a hot little search coil.
Happy Hunting!:)

I have an Ace 350with the 8.5x11 coil to bad I could not use it on the 1500 But I do like the 4.5 I find it to be very good around play grounds But I do switch to the stock coil for the larger areas just to say some time and to use the imaging not that you need it just fun to play with LOL thanks for your input it means a lot..
