Which Garretts?

Hello to all:

I was thinking of getting a Whites Prizm V or the Garretts GTAx 550. I tried a Prizm 4 out this past Saturday and wasn't impressed, it wouldn't read a quarter on the floor. After reading all the comments on the Ace 250 I think this is what I may purchase. I actually found a Garretts dealer within 8 miles of my house so I will go there Saturday.

I was trying to compare a Whites and Garretts machine. Is the Garretts 550 better than the ACE 250 or should I stick with the 250 to start out? I am interested mainly in coin shooting.

Thanks

The Garrett 250 is hard to beat even at the lower price it is one heck of a machine. I own two. One for my wife and one for me. I have ten other detectors, have owned about forty detectors in twenty eight years of detecting. I call the 250 my coin vacumn machine.

I would go with the ACE 250, and because of the savings, consider getting a larger or smaller sniper coil. And......the ACE loves quarters. ;)

As stated above, it is a coin magnet. Got Ace 250 for my fiance and just got a great deal for another one on Ebay for me. Before you go to dealer, check out E:cheers:bay. Ther are great deals being listed and sold by dealers. Happy Hunting!

I'm not defending the Prizm. But you just can't put coins on a floor and think a detector will pick them up very well. The floors are full of nails, pipes and wiring. Concrete floors may have rebar or wire in them. The detector is trying to eliminate the iron depending in the disc. setting. Having said that the Prizm 5 is $500.00 the 250 is like $220.00 The 250 has a sniper coil 4.5 inch the smallest the Prizm has is 8 inches. The prizm has only 8 segments while the 250 has 12. The 250 has selective notch. Prizm has smart notch. (not really smart). Prizm has 2 - 9 volt batteries. 250 has 4-aa's (cheaper to buy) Both are multi tone machines. Advantage Garrett.

Kenny's right - good comments.
Get the Ace 250 and dont look back. Prove that you purchased one and Ill buy your first battery change.

The 550 is a good machine but so is the 250 and it has newer technology and will do everythinga 550 will do and it's lighter, which means a lot after a few hours of detecting.
