Which Explorer 8" coil for less falsing when bumped?

I am going to buy an 8" coil but I want one that will not false every time I bump a rock or a root. I would prefer the Minelab 7.5" coil because it come's with a lower shaft but if the Sun Ray or some other coil addresses tht falsing issue better then I don't mind spending a little more.

What do you think?

There is a waiting list with dealers for the Sun Ray 8" coil and it cost's more than the ML and does not come with a lower shaft. Why? Is it a better coil?

Thanks,

Julien

I don't have either one but would like to get a used one, I am looking for the Minelab coil simply because they are generally lower priced. The coils I do have don't exhibit that kind of problem, I have the stock, WOT and 5" excellerator. When you bump your coil, do you get falses?

Yes, it falses. From what I hear all the slimline coils do this. You must have the older 10.5 coil.
I wouldn't be too quick to say there is no difference, there must be. I just do not know yet what it is. I could be wrong but since there seem's to be quite a difference between the EXII coil and the SE slimline there may be quite a difference between the ML 8 and the SR 8.

Thanks,

J

Wait till you take it to the beach and get black sand between them, you have to rinse the cover out about once an hour. In the rain it happens allot too. Lots of falses, check that your coil cover is clean.

I am sure there are differences between the coils but it is still a Ford and Chevy deal going on, that it is according to who you ask as to which coil is better. I am starting to wonder if you have a bad coil.....
but I am not familiar with the Slimline.

that it is only a problem in AM. If I run in AM it give's a high false if I bump it but with IM or Smartfind "coins" it is not nearly as bad. It only gives a quick "er" in SF or IM. So, it's not as bad a problem as I thought. I was running in AM a lot but not now. I clean my cover every day.

I am happy with it and am beginning to learn it. The 7.5 coil is next!

I beleave the manual says "avoid excessive brushing of the coil on the ground as this may result in false signals". Seems Minelab is aware of your problem. On most detectors you will only get falsing from coil bumps if your sensitivity is to high.

I have a customer that bought the SunRay 8" Explorer coil from me. A few days after he started using it he called me and said it was very sensitive to even touching weeds. He found out that his SE had a problem and sent it to Minelab. The SunRay coils are a very good product. Slim coils can be inherently noisy due to less shielding. I love using the 5.5" SunRay on my SE and I believe I would rather use the 8" SunRay coil over the Minelab slimline 10" coil. Just my input for what it's worth.
