Which Excalibur Coil Do You Prefer ?

it really depend on the beach u hunting both coils have their place 8"great with trashy areas (some say the 10"is just a bit deeper and it has more coverage)

8" in Rough Water such as Ocean or Brackish Waters, because it MANEUVERS BETTER and MUCH EASIER to Recover Target due to POOR VISIBILITY!! 10" for BEACH DETECTING for BIGGER FOOTPRINT and goes a few inches Deeper!! Hope this HELPS, Les Robinson

For me, bigger is better. That's why I use either the 10 inch factory or the WOT coil. I prefer the WOT for dry sand and wet sand while the 10 inch is better in the water.

For the great expanses of beach, coverage is king. Not only will the WOT cover large areas faster, it goes deeper than the factory 8 or 10 inch coils. In the water, the WOT is a bit much and that's where I use the 10 inch coil.

I hard wire the coil and carry with me a battery operated soldering gun and plenty of super tape for waterproofing. The waterproof plugs to me seem to be causing the Excal to be giving false readings in the water.

Had the Coiltek waterproof connector on one of my excals/WOT for years and never had a leak or a false reading & I pretty much hunt the water 98%

Which connectors do you use? I tried the Blue Bulgins and had a lot of false signals, coil sounded off with every wave that hit the connector. They stay dry, so the only thing I could think of was loose pins, which could have been the case. Maybe I just did a poor job building the things as others have stated they have had no such problem.

For all around use I like the factory 10" coil and if using the excalibur in a trash infested area I'd like the factory 8" coil.

The 12X10 SEF is phenomenal on my blue 1000! It still hits an 11 inch deep quarter in tough ground hard, even at minimum sensitivity! Both the 8 and 10 factory coils need the sensitivity turned up to hit the coin! I use Bulgin plugs and never had had a problem. I did follow the instructions exactly. Do not alter/trim the cages and do not clamp down on the plug nuts too hard, as you may pierce the coil cable casing with the cage! Hand tight snug, then just a bit more. The instructions actually call for a certain Ft lbs of tightness.

Then too, the popular on-line SEF/Excal wiring for blue machines is wrong. So wired the PP mode will not work correctly. Off the top of my head, I believe they have the Red and Black wires crossed. I have that info at home.

In the water I find the most with the 8 inch Tornado coil. On the beach I prefer the 12X10 SEF. But, believe the WOT would be even better. The 5 inch EXcellerator is pretty good on land/trash, but not in water! I once tried the SR 8 and did not like it on my Excalibur, but I may try it again, in case there was something wrong with that first coil.

At this point if I had to pick just 1 coil for everything it would be the 12X10 SEF. For in the water only the 8 Tornado. Just on the beach the WOT!
