For the great expanses of beach, coverage is king. Not only will the WOT cover large areas faster, it goes deeper than the factory 8 or 10 inch coils. In the water, the WOT is a bit much and that's where I use the 10 inch coil.
I hard wire the coil and carry with me a battery operated soldering gun and plenty of super tape for waterproofing. The waterproof plugs to me seem to be causing the Excal to be giving false readings in the water.

otlew said:Which connectors do you use? I tried the Blue Bulgins and had a lot of false signals, coil sounded off with every wave that hit the connector. They stay dry, so the only thing I could think of was loose pins, which could have been the case. Maybe I just did a poor job building the things as others have stated they have had no such problem.
