Which Excalibar is the best to buy the 800 or 1000 which is the best overal coil

Depends where your hunting at and what your hunting for.
1000 is going to cover more ground and get more depth.aaand pick up more targets(possibly trash) and could 'mask out' a good target.Where as the 800 (smaller coil) could minimize how many targets you hit at once with each pass. bbut you will have less depth then the 1000 coil.
It's sort of a give & take when trying to decide on which coil size to go with. It's good to have both detectors but can cost. Another alternative is you could purchase waterproof connectors from SUNRAY or COILTEK so that you could alternate coils as you need to. But this would void your warranty with MINELAB. Unless your buying your detector from a previous owner, then you would'nt have to worry about the warranty. Like I said...it's all about give and take.
happy Hunting,

I have the Excalibur 800 and Love it. The eight inch coil is what I like. Hunting under water with a bigger coil creates extra drag and if you are like me hunting for long periods of time, the extra drag adds up. Also getting between the trash. Pinpointing under water is easier too as most the time you can not see where your coil is.

I've used an Excalibur 800 for several years, goes deep, likes Gold rings and has paid for itself in fun & finds. I just sent mine into Minelab to convert the coil over to a Sunray S-12 and added a pair of Grey Ghost headphones as my factory ones, one side crapped out. I'm looking to cover more area and perhaps get a little more depth. The 800 has been good in trash for me, so hope the S-12 works as good. It was a tough decision to change to the larger coil, hope I did the right thing...H.H.:)
