Which do you prefer on your Whites... 13" Ulitimate or the 10x12 SEF?

Looking for some imput on either or both coils, likes, dislikes, depth, etc, thanks.

Dan, I have had both of these coils on a MX5, DFX, and V3i. In my opinion, they both feel lighter and work better than the D2 10 inch coil. Slightly deeper, better balanced, and sharper detection area. The 13 inch Ultimate did not work as well on my MX5 as the SEF 10x12, but not a huge difference. The 13 inch Ultimate worked better on the DFX, but also not a huge difference. The SEF 10x12 was the near perfect coil on my V3i. If I had to pick one coil for these three detectors, I would take the 10x12. I like it's physical size(it does not feel or behave like a big coil). I could hunt in the trashy places I frequent with this coil and do well. There was no scientific testing to back up my opinions, but the hundreds of hours I spent in the field is how I came to my conclusions.

Got a 13" for my bday, super light, great separation for a big coil, had it on my m6, had alot of falsing so I couldn't crank the sensitivity. I didn't try it on the mx5, my 6x8 is married to it. Maybe the 13" will do better on the 5, will find out on my next outing.

I really like the SEF12x10 Coil,it works really well for me and its light, pinpoints well and certainly deeper, the thing is with a larger coil is that most folks still want to crank the sensitivity right up and then wonder why the detector becomes unstable, sorry to have to say that is how it will always work.I also use a Hotshot coil which for a 12'' coil is possibly my favourite one on my DFX as that is ultra lighweight but once again the sensitivity has to be turned down by a fair margin but it then become very stable but still gives me extra depth and coverage.

I also use a SEF8x6 coil instead of the stock coil, just love the performance from that coil, can keep the same settings as standard and in some cases i can turn the wick up a bit settings wise.

What ever option you choose keep us updated,it would also help to provide some further infop on what you plan on using the larger coil for ???

Anybody do any air tests on the 10x12? Was not impressed with airtest with the 13" on my m6 or mx5. Was getting abt the same as my 10" DD excelerator, abt 9".

I too have both, and have used them both on my MXT but only used the 10x12 back when I had a V3i. I even did a little bench comparison testing between the two, and here's my conclusion. They're both great coils. The best two big coils for the White's MXT/V-series. Both of them smoke White's 10" DD, lighter, deeper, better separation. Now between the two, the 10x12 has a tiny bit better separation, and the 13" Ultimate has a bit better depth. In my comparison testing, the Ultimate was consistently about a half inch deeper on dimes (both air test and in my backyard test garden). Maybe it's my imagination, but the 10x12 seems to give a "sharper" signal. A little more "surgical" if you will.

Can't really describe it, but I think the 10x12 has a narrower detection field at the cost of a tiny bit of depth, while the 13" Ultimate sacrifices the narrow field in exchange for a small bit of additional depth.

The differences are really small, they are both great coils. Overall, I like the 10x12 a little better for it's slightly better separation. But I keep the 13" Ultimate handy for when I want to squeeze the maximum depth out of my MXT.

Been wondering the same thing as I have been reading over some reviews. I been contimplating installing either the 13 or 10x12 on my beach hunter and even tho its a older model with the 9.5'' stock coil. The conclusion I came to was neither are really any better then the other by about a mere 1/2'' so I opted to stay with the super 12'' coil. For my line of detecting.

The Ulitimate coil, in mild ground, how deep would this coil hit on a dime...

I have the 10X12 coil and I rarely can run over 6 sensativity. Thing is I am finding coins constantly that I missed with regular coils. I have most of the Whites coils and the 10X12 stays on my machine all time.
