Which Diggers are best?

What are your guys experiences with different digging tools. I have to get one because the last of the two free "Gator" tools I got with my metal detectors is going to break soon. Is the lesche one better? Which tool finds more gold and silver? Which is strongest etc.?

Go to a military surplus type store, that sells used/vintage/collectible military gear, and find a military issue bayonnete. Not the cheapie Taiwan look-alikes, but the real ones. Any of them from WWII to the present are great digging tools. You can stand on them, and/or pry on them with all your might, and will not be able to bend or break them. You can also maybe find them on ebay, but beware of after-market cheapies. It's got to be the military grade types.

Final note: The ends are made with a butt-thingie that is made to fit on the end of a gun (depending on the type you get, and what gun it was made to fit on). If it is the irritating flat-end type, you can just put a bunch of black-tape wrappings to make a rounded end, no problem.

Lesche or a Dalyn Sodbuster.I like the Sodbuster better in this really hard dry ground.

I tried all sorts of spades - one bent so badly on the third hole that it was useless. Finally, I bought a Lesche Model 58 Little Eagle. It it strong, effective and has given monumental service. My sister-in-law has since bought one, as did my son. In all cases they proved to be solid performers. I have even used my one on the Victorian and Western Australian gold fields where the ground is harder than a politician's heart, and it again proved its value. So my vote goes to Lesche tools. I also found that their service is very good - I bought the three mentioned above (in separate orders) and each one was mailed the day I ordered it. In all three cases they took about a week to arrive here in Oz, so that's pretty hard to beat. That's my two bob's worth to this little debate - I hope it helps someone.

In the early day's of my detecting I used a Navy survival knife and it served me well for many year's. After I came back to metal detecting after a long absence the blade finally gave out.It got soft and bent quite easily. So I bought a Lesche and it is a good piece of equipment strong and tough. But I find it slightly big and awkward. I seen a WW2 replica of a Marine Kabar in Bass Pro shops for about the same price. It has the high carbon strong blade just like the original's. I think that would be a better choice,at least that is my opinion.
Good luck, Gary

I have tried so many spades it,s ridicoulus. For the last 5 to six years I've been using a plastic one from swedish manufacturer Fiskars. The first one broke after 3 years and thousands of holes. You can basicly use it wedge big stone and roots out of the hole. A bonus is that it doesn't scratch any finds and it also doesn't disturb the machine. It's the size of a regular garden spade. I will never buy anything else again.

Dalyn Sodbuster to try out from Kickback when I hunted with him last Sunday so I will have to try that baby out and see what it can do. Looks like it will work great. Thanks for the Digger to try out and hope you get some use out of that New Minelab Rain Cover I gave you as a gift. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

I like Lesche digger's and Predator Shovel's the best.
I think someone said that the Predator Co. is also owned by the Lesche Co.
Anyway - their great tools that really take a pounding !

lesche is my favorite. I sharpen it once every month or so.
