Which DFX coil

John O

New member
Hello, first post, I have a DFX with a 950 and bigfoot coils, thinking of getting a coil for more depth, any suggestions, Santa needs my list, John

Your 950 is you best bet. But I would suggest the eclipse 5.3 because deeper is not always better.

Hey John,

I currently have the Stock 950 and the Big foot for my DFX as well as the Eclipse 5.3"DD" for trashy areas, but I really like my Eclipse 1400 "DD", which is usually my weapon of choice! She is a bit heavier than the stock 950 and the Big Foot, but has good depth and still pinpoints nicely! The 1400 is a bit more temperamental around high tension lines and I find that when you run the coil hot you need to start lower with your Pre Amp to ground balance, then once it's balanced bump it up, other wise it may not balance for you! The 1400 is a really nice coil and she will run hot in most conditions for you if you want, with a little coaxing! I got her from Santa last year and couldn't be happier with it! I haven't been able to get out MD'ing as much as I would have liked this year, but the little bit that I have, the 1400 has served me well, netting me a few nice finds on ground that I have definitely covered with the other coils before! Hope this gives you something to consider and with luck Santa will grace your DFX with a cool new toy! The down side to that is that you'll have to wait until the ground thaws to get to work! Anticipation is a real killer!

Good luck to you!

John, if you are hunting in medium to low mineralized ground, a Super 12" concentric is really hard to beat. DD style coils should do better in depth in highly mineralized ground. Check the DFX Classroom Forum and read what users of both have to say.
