Which detector?

Hi all
I'd like to throw this question into the forum
I am working overseas in the Middle East, I don't have my Explorer XP (purchased 2000) with me and just realised that many of the beaches here have never been detected before.
I specifically want to target Gold jewellery, which detector do you recommend?
My Mine lab is in storage and is out of the question to have it sent, I am reluctant to buy the XP 2 as the added features are of no use to me, what would you do?
I am unfamiliar with other brands but am keen to try them.
I find the Minelab excellent at depth and discrimination in highly mineralized areas, but my one and only complaint is it is uncomfortable to use after a few hours.
What models do the brands like Fisher, Garrets, White, and others offer?
My requirements are:
Targeting gold Jewellery
Depth, and discrimination (use on beaches)
Lightweight for long hours work
Ps I have been detecting on and off for 20 years, have owned only three detectors (first was a kit model my father made for me, second a gold mountain, and currently the Minelab Explorer XP
Many thanks
Neil

Since you are familiar with the Minelab I would look towards the Excalibur with an after market or home made straight shaft. This will put the weight of the unit behind your arm for better balance and transfer of weight. It also puts the control housing sideways where it cuts the water better than the factory setup which acts like a canoe paddle in the water working against your arm.

Hope this helps,
