Which Detector

Hi All, I am just about to purchase my first serious detector and would really appreciate an unbiased view as to which one I should spend my hard earned cash on, I have narrowed it down to either the DFX or the Quattro, I've read numerous reviews and every body praises both machines, I like the switch on and go simplicity of the Quattro but at the same time don't mind a challenge with all of the capabilities of the DFX, I will be detecting both Beach and parks etc so it needs to be good in both areas, It really comes down to which machine can really go the deepest and find the good stuff. Any advice to make this decision any easier would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

DFX..........Hands down. Be prepared for a long learning curve though. The DFX wins big on the beach with dual frequencies. Compatibility for changing hunting conditions.....again, DFX. The DFX is simply the best White's has to offer.

Currently I have both the Quattro and the DFX(also a couple others but I'll just try to focus on the two). I like both machines and they each have strengths and weaknesses. As for depth I would say it is probably too close to call although I believe the Quattro does better at IDing deeper targets. The DD coil of the Quattro is great for covering more ground - of coarse this is a problem in trashy/iorn areas. You really will have to get the 8" coil if you purchase the Quattro(along with the standard 10"). All around you can't go wrong with the DFX. If I could only keep one detectector I guess it would have to be the DFX. It is very versatile. The Quattro you could get frustrated with but in the right conditions is a thing of beauty. Here are the pro's and cons in my opinion.


Reservations with the Quattro:
- Trash. Not very good in trashy and iorn
infested sites. Smaller coil does help a lot but
have to really go slow.

Thanks very much for your reply Mirage, I have decided to go with the Quattro (hopefully I've made the right choice !!) your info certainly helped in the decision along with a great price on the Quattro. Hitting the beach with it tommorow. Cheers.
