I am going to the beach soon and have never hunted the sand ..I have a dfx and an m6 with 10dd, 6x10, 5.3, and 9.5 also have the v3I WITH 10dd, 6x10, 4x6, and 5.3 which of these would be best for the beach.....thanks thedoc

I use the VX3 withe the 960 coil with no problems. I tried the 6X10 and 10DD and don't like them They false a lot and you ll did every crown on the beach. HH Oops meant the 950.

The DFX or V3i with the 950 coil will give you very good results, the V3i is the better of the two, I assume you are talking about a salt water beach. Crown caps or not, you really want to dig everything above iron when beach hunting and don't forget a sand scoop, it is worth every cent. Good luck.

Larry, I do not have a v rated 950 coil for the v3i would i be better off using the non v rated coil on the v3i or go ahead and use the dfx........thanks

I would use the 950 on the V3i. By not being V rated just means that you can not turn the RX gain up as high, and on a beach, high gain is not a priority, it should work just fine. You should be able to detect a quarter at 12 inches even at low RX, 6 or 7. You can test it out at home before you leave and if you don't think it would work, you can use the DFX. Both machines are multi-frequency which works best on a salt beach and they have salt settings too.

Rules are a lot different on a salt beach rather than inland. This time of year your looking for shallow recent drops. What Larry said about RX gain is very true. I run the factory salt-beach program with much luck. I've found loctrack to work best with 5hz band filter. Most people round here (mee too ) walk a med. slow pace but swing like crazy. I try to keep the coil 1inch above the ground and swing almost 180 degrees. The 950 coil has a good field at shallow depths and I lower RD to 60 and use MM. Just remember that your shallow and have a whole lot of ground to cover. Everybody won't agree but my finds have doubled doing it this way. Also scoop everything but iron.
