(Somethin' tells me they're ALL gonna sound nice n' cheap, by today's standards.)
I got my first detector around that time. 1977, maybe- I think it was '78, though. It was just a $20 plastic "toy" that didn't even have audio- just a red light on top that flashed. Basically a studfinder. Made a few finds with it, though.
Didn't get my first "real" machine (a White's TR-Discriminator) until 1982.
