Which Detector Would You Buy???

If you had $1200 to spend on a detector, what would you buy, for general coin/jewerly/beach/relic?

White's DFX 300
Minelab Explorer SE
Garretts GTI 2500

Depends if your hunting for only an hour at a time or all day.

I would say at least three hours or more.

IMHO, you should consider the F75. It has great capabilities, and you can literally swing it all day. Getting somewhat "long in the tooth," I've had to go to the lighter machines, like Tesoro, because the old arm just couldn't take the heavy detectors any more. I just got an F75, and they're not fooling when they advertise it have the best ergonomics in the industry. Since getting mine about 10 days ago, I've found a couple of silver dimes, a war nickle, two silver rings, 10 wheat cents and a boat-load of newer coins. It is an awesome detector, with a broad range of capabilities.

Well, first I would get a Compadre and think about it while I'm

enjoying the great finds.

HH,

I'm with Dave NV on this one !! I'm an older guy and I purchased a used F-75 a couple of months back and I'm really happy with it .It goes deep , it's light with a nice balance , not super complicated , a great back-light, an easy to read the ID and the batteries last a long time . I've been making good finds with it
and it's become the detector I use the most of my four . If you get one I would heartily recomend the SunRay Invader FX-1 probe .

Thats a hard question, you list a number of high end machines I assume you use them. Don't think anyone needs to spend 1200.00 I like my Troy X5 can be had for 600-700 in good condition with extra coils can be swung all day as the weight is only 2.5 pounds considered an all terrain machine I hunt very successfully with it. Maybe you need a water machine or a Detector Pro Wader. As a general question though just don't see a need to spend that much and yes I do have 1200.00 and about 50 some odd machines already but I don't have a gold machine. There is one I would buy on second thought Goldmaxx xp . Dan

I would buy either the MXT or X70, either can be had for about 680.00, and spend the rest on coils and a sunray probe.

Too bad they just didn't have like 5 types of detectors available and you choose one of them... It's like buying a tv today so many to select from... Too bad you couldn't do a test drive like you can with cars.

Like the other guy said, an X-Terra 70 and a selection of coils. It only weighs 2.9 pounds, batteries last forever and it will detect almost as deep as the more expensive units. Easy learning curve. For $1100. you can get the detector with stock coil, 6" 18.75 khz DD coil, 5 X 10 18.75khz DD coil and the 10.5" 7.5khz DD coil. Between all these coils you will have a detector that will find just about anything you might be looking for, great depth and ease of use.

Good hunting, John K

F75. I don't specifically coin hunt at all. But while relic hunting have run across a number of coins with the 75. Great in iron, has a meter for coin hunters, lightweight, good batt life, decent depth.

For that kind of money, that'd be my suggestion.

Richard

WIsh I had a hunt/detecting club close by and check out the detectors everyone uses. Hard to buy from hype and facts on the internet.

Hi Magicman,

That's exactly why I suggested the Compadre.

If you are new to detecting, it is impossible to know

what detector is going to suit your needs.

The Compadre is an exceptional buy and a great addition

to anyone's collection. It's a great back-up and if you use it,

you can figure out which detector is right for you, and if you

are going to like this hobby.

If you think it's a toy, think again.

Here is one short hunt with a Compadre.

Two diamond rings. Not bad for a little toy.
