Which Detector :help:

Ken in Georgia

New member
Hey Guys,

I looking into buying a new detector, I love my G2 for the iron, However, I am looking for sliver like everyone else. Quote " Minelab are the best sliver finders on the market". Now I know everyone here has either the Safari/ Quattro, But either the Etrac or the Explorer or the Safari, but which one would you guys be looking at for coin hunting?

Ken, I can speak only for the Safari and the SE Pro and I know by experience that either machine does well with coins; I am sure the E-trac will do equally as well. I still have both machines but these days I only use the SE Pro because I am still learning it (and I like the challenge). The learning curve is more extensive because there are so many more settings and program options with the SE plus it offers more information for the operator to consider while deciding whether to dig or walk away.

I am sure any of the three machines you are considering are great machines. After looking at your personal arsenal of metal detecting equipment I am sure you already know that it depends on how much money one wants to spend.

HH,
Don

Ken I like daugbisquit also have a Safari and an E-Trac along with a G-2. The Minelab machines are very deep on any target not just silver. I have done very well with finding CW relics and they are very good on the beachs. The Safari is not a dumbed down E-Trac matter of fact IMHO the Safari is a much better relic machine. But once you learn the best settings at your hunting sites and get experience on the E-Trac you will see how remarkable this machine is. If deep silver is what you're after then get a Minelab and you will be pleased. HH :minelab:

Thanks guy's For all the help.

I have had both Etrac and Safari both very good detectors.I still think the Safari is as deep as anything out there if there was something better I would buy it.The real reason I do not have an Etrac is to much screwing around with programs and such. Now if all the stuff on the Etrac would get me more depth or separation I would use it but does not.It is more of a mind thing not true performance.Which brings me to another option that no one can ignore and that is the Deus Detector from what I here it is an Etrac with faster processor works better in junk, great for gold, but has same depth as Etrac.Weighs 1/3 as much and totally wireless for about 300 bucks more than Etrac.Next if you go with Etrac you say you want X-5 coil.I hunted a small park for 30 plus years when I got Etrac/Safari found about 50 coins out of park I thought was cleaned out by me and dad.Put 6X8 on Safari found about another 75 coins plus some jewelery what a great coil or perfect match for Minelab machines.I went to same park with X-5 have hunted about 12 hours same area that I hunted with 6X8 and have yet to find anything. It has good depth testing it 7 to 8 inches on dime but I feel it is 2 inches less than my 6X8 with no proof of more finds I sold it to a friend of mine at what I had in it he has had trouble finding an X-5 and he hunts really trashy Chicago parks.I look at all the detectors that you have and all of them could be replaced by FBS Minelab detector.I had 33 coin detectors at one time the only detector I have now is Safari no backup, more time hunting, more time finding, less time screwing around.Etracs are real cheap in England right now everyone is trying to sell there Etrac and get hold of Deus kind of reminds you of rush on Minelabs few years back.Maybe time for Deus Forum.

Thanks for the information, my son told me this is the detector for him.

The gold rings I am finding are large men's ring 3 to 5 a year mainly because I hunt normally if I have time 15 thru 39 open even higher disc.if tired or short on time.If I am near volley ball court or horse shoe pit will open up 6,7,8,9 for women's rings been working out pretty good found about 5 last 2 years with Safari not too much beach hunting for me.Tested just about all the women rings in our family some of them have real rocks on them maybe 50 or so came in between 6 thru 11 but I hate digging 22's so 10 and 11 I leave close for that reason.I do not believe FBS detectors lose much if any depth raising Disc. which is real improvement over the old days.prepare to dig foil if you are looking for gold.

IMO

I traded my etrac for a safari and some cash. He thought he made off like a bandit but I was the one who ran off and never looked back. Why? Because a usb port and ttf to me is not worth the price tag. Having owned all three, look at my signature... the safari is so often overlooked but I assure it is a beast in disguise. Think of the etrac as a five speed transmission, msd ignition, navigation and a jack for your pink  ipod. The safari is the same car with a automatic and is a base model. They both are comparable in performance, but cruising an automatic with the same great power and easier to use. One may be quicker off the line but they are still neck and neck. The same depth and tones, the only thing experienced minelab people typically rely on.

HH,

Tom

I use the explorer se pro 97% of the time. Personal choice because I feel most comfortably behind the wheel with it.

Hey Ken,
I started with the Safari and bought the Etrac as well about a yr later. Love em both! What part of Ga. are you in. I have a Cabin in North Ga. that I go to quite a bit. Let me know if you are near Jasper and I'll bring both and you can try them out. I get up there between my business trips and maybe we can work out a time. PM me.
