Which detector for Myrtle Beach

Hi All, Anyone that has hunted Myrtle Beach i need help. I am going next week to North Myrtle, and need to know what detector to take. I have a T2se, MXT, CZ70PRO,Delta 6000, Eagle 11sl, 6000 PROsl, Garretts ADS 7. Of all of these what would do the best on the wet sand? I don,t wade, might drop my detector. I don,t go to the beach much, this will be 2 times in 5 years. What coil would you put on your pick? Can,t take all of them, not enough room. Thanks Flintstone

I would think the CZ70 would work . I believe it is a dual frequency machine ....

I'd go with the CZ and take both the 8 inch coil and a bigger coil if you have one. I use a Sunray FZ-12 on my CZ; but if I did not have that coil, I'd have one of the Fisher 10.5 inch coils to use for most of the beach work. The 8 inch lets you hunt the more trashy beach entrance areas if you want to. I have not experienced reasons to take a coil smaller than 8 inches for beach use on any of the beaches in the North Myrtle Beach or Myrtle Beach areas. I normally hunt with the big coil.

If you were only going to hunt the dry sand it might be a different recommendation. I have a Whites XL Pro and it's audio signature over bottle caps is very unique. I could go dry sand hunting and nearly never dig a bottle cap with the XL Pro, and I would guess the 6000 PROsl responds the same. It is not a detector I like to use over wet sand. CZ's are excellent over wet sand as well as dry sand and in the transition range too.

Wife and I get to North Myrtle Beach area for a week or two a year. At low tide you can get large areas of wet sand to cover. Looks like low tide runs in the afternoon for next week. If you get a chance, stop in at Boulineau's IGA market in the Cherry Grove area. They offer tide charts for free.

Just buy an Excalibur and get it over with. You KNOW you want to do the wet stuff.

I have used the CZ-20 and minelab excalibur for wet and dry sand detecting. I also used Tesoro Compadre and Cortes on dry sand area with good success. We are going down in September. Always had good luck there.

I have heard that the MXT dose good in the dry sand. I will be going next week. Hope to find some bikers gold.

MXT will do very well in the dry. May not be the best in the wet sand but should be able to set it to find stuff in the wet. My recommendation, if you have the room, is to take the detector you are most familiar with and the CZ. Bike week is pretty much a zoo that centers more on Myrtle Beach but spreads to North Myrtle Beach and south to Surf Side too. Lots of chains worn. Keep your eyes scanning the sidewalks as you walk. Wife has spotted dropped gold on the sidewalks. I have spotted coins and dollar bills. On days that the crazies are active, eye spots can add or even exceed the totals found with the metal detector on the beach. Depends what you see versus what you may get the coil over.

I have used the MXT for a long time and know it very well. I was thinking about that too. I was thinking that with the prospect mode that it will let you know what is iron or not. I have all the coils for it also. I know the CZ is a good one for deep coins, but i have found lots of rings with the MXT, just not on the beach. Thanks for the help Flintstone

Flint, that Excal will work on freshwater+ on the dry stuff too. Even normal dirt......


I'm in the same boat. We get to the beach (usually Myrtle) maybe once a year and I wish I had an Excal every time I go. One day.......
