Which detector for first beach hunt

WV62

Well-known member
We are planning a trip to the beach in mid May, I have 3 detectors, F75Ltd (se), CZ-3D, and Tesoro Tejon. I may only get to hunt one or 2 days so not a lot of time to play around, I was wondering which detector would be my best bet. I will only be taking one detector.

Thanks

75 gets a little shakey in wet sand areas ..and you have to Gb in all metal for beach hunting..

I have only tried a Tesoro at Tybee Island Georgia..the results were not good...but that was only my experience

I used the CZ6a and it worked really well. Just had to run a lower sens, but depth was good....

Yes the CZ-3D still has the salt mode. I was leaning in the direction of the CZ myself, but I just got the CZ and the manual talks like it is designed for old coins. The switch says salt and enhanced and I have heard the salt side referred to as normal.

High,
I would take the detector that you have the biggest coil for.
That way you can cover most ground.
Might result in more finds.
Wish you good weather.

C3d hands down run 0 DISC DIG all if it's not a carpet of trash. Go to the cz forum for more info.

Okay and thanks, it looks like the CZ is going to the beach.

Now in the way of tools, what do I need? All I have is a sand scoop, do I need to start looking for anything else? Kind of looking at must have items.

Suntan lotion

Didn't expect that, good one.

If you can, add a strong magnet to the bottom of your scoop. Small screws and nails can mimic good targets sometimes (and on the beach you should not pass up any target, anyway). Those small enough to pass through the holes in your scoop can drive you nuts until you realize what's happening. Also, if that small target keeps moving around and doesn't show up in the scoop with the magnet attached then it's a good idea to keep going until you find it. More than one diamond stud earring has wound up as a beach find!

That's a pretty good idea, I will start looking around for one.

Ron - try a rare earth magnet. V...E...R...Y... strong. And, if you are using a plastic scoop, you can put one on the inside and one opposite it on the outside in the place where most of the sand will go through.

Watch your fingers though. They are super strong.

I have gotten them at Crafts 2000, and I believe Harbor freight has some.

Let me know how you do.

mike.....

You will probably want to get a mesh finds pouch too. They let the sand fillter out while you walk. Kellyco sells one I know of for sure.

Without it, a finds bag will tend to get heavy.

Thanks guys, all set just got my magnets installed, the CZ-3D is packed and ready to go. It will be a 2 day drive and we are leaving tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Okay guys I am at the beach, been out a couple of times for a couple of hours each time. So far all I have found is $1.05 in change and a sinker. I am thinking the detector is working fine, but it seems that I am not hearing very many targets good or bad.

I was not able to do anything with GB, disc @ 0, sensitivity at max, tried both enhanced and salt mode and running the 8" coil (the only one I have with me).

Going fishing tomorrow but hope to get in some more beach hunting before heading back home.

Just thought I would see if anybody thinks what I am doing is okay or do I need to make some changes.
