Which coil?

I know this topic has been bounced around a million times, but PLEASE give me your opinion one more time! The stock coil went out on my MXT today-- the SECOND ONE IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS! I do mostly relic hunting in good soil-not highly mineralized-in fact, I can usually ramp my gain up to the max (except with the big 300 coil) without any problem. I'm looking to buy a coil that's good for relics, coins, etc. and also RELIABLE! I've heard a lot of talk about the 6x10 being a good all-around coil that many users keep on "most of the time." Are they referring to the White's 6x10 DD coil, an accelerator coil, or what? I have the Eclipse Shooter DD coil for trashy areas, and the MXT 300 for deep hunting, but I need a good, all-purpose one when neither of these is appropriate. Any and all suggestions, opinions, and comments GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks, Jack.

It's basically ones own preference. Have you contacted White's about your second stock coil? Seems like there must be something else causing that. I've never heard of it before. HH, Nancy

NO-haven't contacted them yet, but plan on sending it back for repair--I don't understand two going bad either, although I DO give them a workout--about 4-6 hours a day 4 or 5 days a week!

rough handling, banging on rocks and stumps and such can take a toll on the coil's longevity.

Personally, I prefer the new 10" Double-D coil over the stock 950 or 6X10 or 12". The only White's coil I like more than the 10" D-D is the 5.3 Eclipse. That concentric wound 6

I've had my stock coil for over 7 yrs. and it's been WELL used also and still running like new. Just doesn't make sense. YES, please contact White's and hope they'll take care of you. Good luck, Nancy

I have had my stock 950 for a couple of years no problems but then I never use it I prefer the 6 X 10 DD which is a Whites coil. And for relic hunting its an excellent coil the shape of it helps get around heavy weeds and grass, stump and rocks and I have been real hard on mine hitting big rocks and such hunting Gold. ...........:whites:...

If I had to vote for one "all around" coil it would be the White's 6x10 DD coil. JMHO. HH Dennis in Idaho

I would agree with Monte except I like the 10" 2D coil a little better than the 5.3" Eclipse I can cover more ground with the 10" 2D coil and I pick up more clad at the schools with it. I'm going to go over some areas I have search with the 5.3" with the 10" 2D coil to see what I have been missing. The 10" 2D coil is a winner in my book. Pricey but what the heck. It's only money and it will pay for it self once I dig a 1000 quarters LOL

Let me get his straight. You no longer prefer to use the 5.3 in the playgrounds and have opted to used the 10" coil instead. Is that what you are saying? I think the 5.3 is be a better choice for working play grounds because of target separation and its ability to work in and around playground equipment. I would think that the 10" would be a poor choice of coils when working playgrounds. Now if your talking about detecting in the schools sports fields that would be a different story and I might be inclined to go with a bigger coil if there is not a lot of trash. A bigger coil is not always the best choice as a smaller coil and patience goes a long way for finding the good stuff. JMHO HH Dennis in Idaho
